Job Duties and Responsibilities:
● Diagnose and treat diseases, injuries, and disorders of the eye and vision system.
● Prescribe and administer treatments, medications, corrective lenses, and surgical procedures.
● Perform ophthalmic surgeries, including cataract removal, laser procedures, and other corrective surgeries.
● Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as visual fields, OCT, and fundus imaging.
● Provide preoperative and postoperative care to patients.
● Collaborate with other medical professionals to coordinate treatment plans.
● Conduct follow-up examinations and monitor patients’ progress.
● Supervise, mentor, and provide guidance to ophthalmic assistants, residents, and support staff.
● Maintain accurate medical records and ensure compliance with medical and regulatory standards.
● Participate in continuous professional development and stay updated on advancements in ophthalmology.
Skills and Requirements:
● Completion of bachelor's degree or, completion of a college program- in Quebec and one year of pre-medicine university studies is usually required.
● Graduation from an approved medical school and specific specialty training are required.
● Completion of the certifying examinations of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensing by the provincial or territorial licensing authority are required.
● Five to six years of specialty residency training are required.
● Two years of subspecialty training may also be required.
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
● Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
● Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
