Job Duties:

The EGS Technicians work on our customer sites to safely and effectively diagnose and repair Caterpillar Power Systems Equipment in a timely manner while maintaining extremely high standards and ensuring positive customer experiences.

• Perform all reasonable steps and precautions to guarantee Toromont’s Health and Safety Guidelines are followed and upheld.
• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on gensets, industrial engines, marine engines, controls and other auxiliary equipment, such as Automatic Transfer Switches, Switchgear and Uninterruptible Power Supplies.
• Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and mechanical repairs on engines and generators in both the shop and on customer sites.
• Perform basic troubleshooting for all equipment and provide detailed service reports and recommendations on repairs and upgrades.
• Use electrical and mechanical testing and calibrating equipment to diagnose and service equipment.
• Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Submit accurate service reports, timecards and other required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Operate and connect load banks in a test environment.
• Perform engine overhauls.
• Demonstrate safe and healthy work behaviors and practices at all times in support of Toromont’s Health and Safety Policy, Programs and initiatives.

Skills Required:
• Solid understanding of diesel and gas engines, power fundamentals and electrical controls
• Proficiency with Toromont and Caterpillar tools and software such as Electronic Technician, Service Technician Workbench, DBS, Service Scheduler and SIS
• Customer centric with excellent relationship management.
• Self-motivated team player with solid business acumen and high integrity
• Adaptable with often changing and competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
• Willing and able to work non-standard/on call hours and travel as required to support our customer needs
• Must be able to obtain Driver's License.

Experience Required:
• A minimum of 4 years’ experience with generator sets/electrical and/or mechanical equipment and programmable logic controller (PLC).

Education Required:
• Diploma of Vocational Studies in diesel or electro mechanics or Diploma of Collegial Studies in mechanical engineering.

Wage & Hours: $ 45.94 per hour
• Number of hours per day: 8 hours
• Number of days per week: 5 days per week
• Number of hours per week: 40 hours per week
• Overtime starts after how many hours: after 8 hours in the day
• Work schedule and shift rotation: As per Collective Agreement

Overtime Policy:
(a) Overtime at the rate of time and one-half (1½) the employee’s regular hourly rate shall be paid for all work performed in excess of the shift hours
(b) Overtime at the rate of double (2X) the employee’s regular hourly rate shall be paid for all work performed in excess of the shift assignment as follows:
a. For all employees working five (5) day shifts, all hours worked in excess of eight (8) hours on the sixth (6th) shift and all hours worked on the seventh (7th) consecutive shift. In order to receive double time (2X) on the seventh (7th) shift an employee must work the minimum of four (4) hours on the sixth (6th) shift.
b. For all employees working four (4) day shifts, all hours worked in excess of eight (8) hours on the fifth (5th) or sixth (6th) consecutive shift and all hours worked on the seventh (7th) consecutive shift.
c. For all employees working three (3) day shifts, all hours worked in excess of eight (8) hours on the fourth (4th) or fifth (5th) consecutive shift and all hours worked on the sixth (6th) or seventh (7th) consecutive shift.
