Dear Human Resources Manager,
I would be grateful for the opportunity to be considered as a candidate for a position at your Laboratory. I have over 30 years of laboratory experience and for the past 17 years have worked my way up through supervisory to administrative positions, clearing many hurdles along the way. Most recently, I had been recruited to take the leadership role in the laboratory at New York Community Hospital. The department was in need of a severe overhaul and lacked a sense of direction. I was able to work with vendors and the Environmental Services director to replace all of the out-dated equipment in the laboratory while, at the same time, coordinating the structural expansion of the laboratory and the implementation of a Laboratory information system.
At this time, new analyzers were obtained for the laboratory, including chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis and hematology instruments. In addition, an information system was being readied for introduction to the laboratory. At this time training schedules, interfacing requirements and PC and printing requirements had to be addressed along with the implementation of several of the new pieces of equipment. By using these needed changes to rouse excitement in the staff, I was able to accomplish what appeared to be a daunting task, one that could not have been achieved without the staff support.
Currently, the LIS and new Laboratory equipment are running well and the last two pieces of new equipment are in the process of being interfaced. The expansion of the laboratory has been completed, including a new grossing room, redesigned to meet the specific requirements of both our Pathologist and staff, providing a safe enlarged work area.
Over the past 2½ years, I have had the privilege of successfully taking our laboratory through two New York State and one Joint Commission survey. This required the empowerment of the laboratory staff to complete all of the training, documentation and competencies necessary to show our diligence, compliance and drive to succeed to those regulatory agencies. I am very proud to have been able to be part of this accomplishment.
Having accomplished these many tasks, I now look forward to being able to continue to bring advancement and success to your facility. I have shown myself to be a dedicated and loyal team member and believe that I would be an added asset to your laboratory. I would appreciate the opportunity to prove this to you.
Sincerely,
Neil Peckman
