Experience: From 1994-2006, I worked for the firm of Severn Trent Pipeline Services, the former Utility Pipeline Services, Inc., a worldwide provider of water and wastewater services.
2003 - 2006 SEVERN TRENT PIPELINE SERVICES MANCHESTER, NH Vice President, Northeast Operations
I became one of only two female executives in the Severn Trent organization at this level. With annual revenues of $4.7 million, continuing the profitability of the NH office was my objective.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Fiscal responsibility for a $4.7 million customer service oriented operation;
Prepare annual budgets and monitor quarterly;
Recommend and approve expenditures for day to day operations, annual capital and development of new programs/services to increase the firm’s market share;
Principal in charge for projects ranging in size from $5k to $6.7 million;
Liaison to Clients ranging from municipal (City engineers, DPW directors, etc…) to consulting engineering firms;
Handle contract review and negotiation for all projects;
Manage a staff of 35+ employees (clerical, technical and field);
Conduct weekly staff meetings and monthly department manager meetings to increase productivity and communication between cross functional teams;
Review and monitor corporate safety programs with in-house safety manager to meet/exceed corporate and OSHA requirements;
Develop and manage marketing effort/strategies for the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions;
Direct Business Development Manager’s efforts/activities in aligning with market trends;
Oversee business development effort including preparing and reviewing all bids and proposals;
Initiate programs and procedures to increase efficiency in work flow, data quality and report preparation, resulting in on-time, in-budget project deliverables;
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Maintained continued profitability with annual revenue increases of 10-15% resulting in performance bonuses for key staffers and regular annual merit increases for all employees.
Recruitment of quality, professional staffers which increased our production capabilities, our technical depth to Clients and our ability to pursue larger, higher revenue generating projects.
Moved our 10 year base of operations from rural Auburn, NH to a new facility in Manchester, NH providing closer access for our Clients, expanded facilities for our staff and the potential for long term growth.
Project award of a $6.7 million long term flow monitoring program in Baltimore, MD. I played a key role in the development of the proposal and the oral presentation, developed and negotiated the project fee schedule and served as the principal in charge.
Handled the merging of resources from the closing of Severn Trent’s Queensbury, NY office. I instituted an employee training/mentoring program in an effort to expand our field staff skill base.
1998-2003 SEVERN TRENT PIPELINE SERVICES AUBURN, NH Operations Coordinator
In the fall of 1998, Utility Pipeline was acquired by the conglomerate Severn Trent Services. With a limited presence in the U.S., Severn Trent was looking to establish a stronghold in the industry and began acquiring successful, established firms to expand their market share. Utility Pipeline was an excellent match for these criteria. Several transitional names and identities (i.e., Pitometer Associates) were assumed before the firm finally settled on Severn Trent Pipeline Services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare weekly sales projections, monthly administrative reports;
Submit monthly variance reports and participate in monthly corporate conference calls; in addition, I helped streamline our A/P and A/R functions with corporate accounting in Houston, TX using their Syteline® software;
Appoint an in house safety officer, preside over safety meetings and incorporate regional/state safety requirements with those of corporate;
Prepare annual capital expenditures and worked with corporate purchasing to secure approved acquisitions;
Maintain in-house inventory, correlating with corporate asset lists; and
Oversee H/R requirements and review same with our in-house H/R representative to insure that employee/corporate needs were met.
1994-1998 UTILITY PIPELINE SERVICES, INC. AUBURN, NH Operations Coordinator
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide project management support to Clients in the environmental engineering field;
Act as liaison between field crews, municipalities and engineering firms in providing customer service for ongoing projects;
Schedule field crew allocation (25+ employees) based upon seasonal variations and customer requirements with ability to handle multiple projects/priorities in an ever changing environment;
Act as in-house traffic control implementing organizational tools to interdepartments; i.e., job numbering system, sales/bid lead tracking, job file categorization , etc… to assure efficient/accurate work flow;
Provide inside sales support; generating comprehensive bids/proposals, developing detailed scope of services, related job costing/fee schedules both negotiated and competitive and providing subsequent lead follow-up; responsible for bond (bid, performance, payment, etc…) procurement;
Secure all property/casualty insurances for the buildings/operation; utilize available in-house and newly created graphics to develop marketing campaigns included but not limited to mass mailings, sales brochures, posters and company newsletter;
Review all contract documentation evaluating verbiage in relation to original project proposal translating/developing into new project setup, dispersing relevant information to in-house departments for follow-up;
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual fiscal budgets and revenue projections as well as monthly flash and variance reports;
Initiate programs and procedures to increase efficiency in work flow, data quality and report preparation; and
Perform all accounts receivable billing and monthly collections.
ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
Increased office staff production by instituting policies and procedures to streamline efficiency;
Increased field staff efficiency by instituting a new staff scheduling program;
Upgraded the quality of all project deliverables presenting a more professional, polished image to Clients;
Instituted aggressive promotional/marketing programs; i.e., company newsletter, monthly mailings, increased print ads, etc… to increase firm visibility within the industry;
Reduced property/casualty insurance costs by 20 percent by researching and incorporating current policies into more cost effective markets; and
Instituted a company safety program resulting in a safer working environment for all employees and ensuring company compliance with state and OSHA safety regulations.
Education: Two year advanced certification in business administration from Katharine Gibbs School aka Gibbs College in Boston, MA
