Additional responsibilities included accessing the customer’s software requirements and offering consultative responses to ensure the best possible outcome of the solution. IMI Systems Inc. 1997 - 1999 Project Manager The project management activities included the administration and coordination duties while reporting directly to the department Vice President. Project Workbench was used to track software development activities, and the generation of various project reports. Responsibilities required utilization of U.S. Bank's APM (Automated Project Management), CIL (Centralized Issues Log), and PRL (Problem Reporting Log) mainframe tools.
Patterson Dental Company 1983 - 1997 Research and Development Manager, Marketing Responsible for project planning and leadership for marketed technologies as a Project Manager/Analyst for the nation’s largest dental distributor. A partial list of these projects follow: Merchant Credit Card Processing and Electronic Ordering Initiated a business plan after identifying a new business opportunity utilizing a programmable smart phone platform. This new opportunity allowed the dentist to accept and electronically process patient credit cards for dental services rendered. As Project Leader, this involved presenting the concept to upper management, and an active participation in market positioning discussions. Additional discussions involved margin issues, merchant discount rate structure, and other transaction processing fees. With the approval of the project and design specifications complete, staff resources were identified that included an outside programming staff for the smart phone development. Additional responsibilities included vendor contract negotiations, overall project communication, addressing any and all project related issues, and acting as liaison between upper management and the project teams. In less than four months of product launch, this service was processing in excess of $400k and was increasing at a rate of 60% in credit card transactions each month. Electronic Ordering System As Project Manager, it was my responsibility to complete necessary research, market studies, and negotiate with software and hardware vendors. This project also included the responsibility to develop and present a formal business plan to the upper management group. Upon approval of this project, it was my responsibility to assemble a detailed user interface document and organizing a team of professionals (both internally and externally) to accomplish the task within a set timetable. This team consisted of outside TCAL and firmware developers, internal PC programmers for communications interface issues, and Tandem mainframe programmers to process batched customer data. Additional duties included ongoing interaction with the internal and external programmers and communicate project status to upper management. It was my initiative to conduct alpha testing of this new service, and personally conducted the live beta test of the pre-launch project. Today the company enjoys a customer base of over 3,200 satisfied users and $7.7 million in new business.
Industry Bar Coding Project As Project Manager, it was my objective to educate and encourage over 80 dental manufacturers to bar code 15,000 products about the benefits of this technology. As Project Manager, conducting and facilitating a seminar to over 300 manufacturer attendees initially launched this effort. The overall goal was to improve operational efficiencies in manufacturing, the distribution channels, and improving customer order accuracy. This project also included the coordination of I.T. staff and educating worldwide manufacturing plants in the implementation of bar code equipment, software products, and EDI.
Supervisor of Distribution Operations Supervised a national network of sixty U.S. locations and their computer systems that uploaded critical inventory data. This data was then merged onto the corporate office systems that included mini and mainframe computers. This position included the supervision of an eight member operation staff that was a three-shift operation. As the department supervisor, it was ultimately my responsibility to be the technical resource for the staff and the primary decision-maker for the department. Often times, this meant making critical decisions in highly stressful situations including on-call responsibilities. Additional duties included development of operations procedures; scheduling staffs work hours, employee reviews, staff relation issues and resolutions, and most other Human Resource issues when appropriate.
