Objective: As a teacher, I want to open new doors for my students in order for them to learn and experience what the world has to offer. Ideally, I would like to teach either Kindergarten through third grade or middle school special education students.
Experience: Professional Experience Gear-Up o In this statewide program, I provided an on-campus experience for seventh grade students, including Fairmont State College tours, educational presentations, and discussions. I also handled arrangements from notifications to contacting schools for registration. America Reads Programs o I volunteered and taught first grade student a variety of topics focused on reading books, vocabulary, enrichment games and art projects. Unity Terrace o As a member of Kappa Delta Pi, we provided a mentor service for low income students. Members read, helped with homework, became pen pals and served as mentors for these students RIF- Reading is Fundamental o Kappa Delta Pi members went to neighboring schools and read to students for an hour a day and created a follow up lesson plan. Future Teachers Academy o Education students from FSC participated in a week long camp that brought juniors and seniors from high schools that wanted to be teachers to campus. During this week, high school students were mentored and helped to create lesson plans, which they taught the last day of the camp. Dean Search Committee Student Member o During the last part of the spring semester, I sat down with facility from all over campus and helped in the selection of the new Dean of Education. Student Teaching o In the spring of 2003, I completed by student teaching in a kindergarten classroom the first half of the semester and in a special education classroom the last half.
