Performs final processing of all officer separations and enlisted records. Schedules and conducts personal interviews with both officer and enlisted personnel, using tact diplomacy to obtain full cooperation and necessary information required to provide advice. Insure that proper authority exists for separation. Determines both procedural and substantive completeness of each separation and conformance with currently applicable rules and regulations relating to subsequent rights or losses thereof and similar matters. Confers with unit commanders, re-enlistment office, Personnel Records Section within AG and MEDDAC, Retirement Services Office and other activities within and outside the installation to advice of a discrepancies and corrective action required. Explains findings to personnel involved. After insuring proper authority exists for retirement or separation, initiates request for orders. Furnishes orders to separate and explains purpose and use of separation order for transportation purposes (storage and shipment of household goods); travel allowance (soldiers and dependants) and, in some cases, disability severance payment or readjustment payment. This requires that incumbent be familiar with the provisions of Army Regulations, Joint Travel Regulations, and DOD pay and Entitlements Manuals. Insures the separate fully understands the type of separation and status after separation. Completes DD Form 214 (Report of Separation from Active Duty) worksheet which involves extracting pertinent data from military personnel records jacket official military personnel files, DA Forms 2 and 2-1, DA Form 3716 (Personnel Financial Record), previously issued DD Form 214 for prior service, reassignment orders and other documents which vary dependant on the nature of separation. Maintains liaison with other activities and agencies to insure that available guides are current and correct. Reviews worksheet with separatee, emphasizing the importance of documents. Counsels and advises on actions required prior to separation such as clearance of post, accumulation of physical examination , security or travel restriction debriefing, obtains extension of active duty, reserve or retired ID Cards for self and/or dependants. Incumbent provides answers or refers separatee to appropriate sources. As applicable, explains such matters as civil service jobs in general and applicability of Veterans preference, reserve participation requirements, safeguarding of military information, review of discharge (if other than honorable), medical and dental care for self or dependants. Explains final payments procedures and method of computing final pay. Processes out going personnel from other stations to be separated at this installation to include considerable coordination with other installations on incomplete or inaccurate records as well as demobilizing Reserve, AGR, and National Guard.
