Purchasing Manager
Responsible for all purchasing of materials and services, equipment and supplies for the organization, including major contracts and capital equipment. Determined proper sources of supply for most economical purchases and place orders, with responsibility for prices, quality and on-time delivery. Reported directly to the Operations Manager and General Manager. Located new sources of supply as necessary, kept abreast of changing trends in prices or availability of materials and recommended necessary actions to ensure a continued flow of materials to meet production and sales requirements. Worked directly with internal departments such as Production, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Accounting and Customer Service.
• Reduced vendor base from 200 to less than 100. Implemented lean inventory systems and cost reduction programs that saved the organization $250,000+ annually on purchases of $4MM.
• Teamed with vendors to develop JIT, Kanban and consignment inventory systems as well as develop an inventory buy-back program on obsolete inventory.
• Initiated and led Purchasing Summit between all corporate Purchasing Managers to investigate and implement cost savings programs by recommending policies and procedures for the Purchasing Departments.

AMERICAN STEEL FOUNDRIES – GRANITE CITY, ILLINOIS 1995-2001
(A division of Amsted Industries, manufacturer of steel castings for train undercarriages and coupling components.)
Purchasing Manager
Responsible for all plant purchases, in excess of $40MM, including capital purchases, bulk, raw and production materials, MRO, electrical, tools, rental equipment, contractor services, repairs and miscellaneous commodities. Dealt directly with the warehousing and replenishing of spare parts inventory as well as bulk material for plant production. Interacted extensively with all plant departments including Scheduling & Planning, Repair & Maintenance, Engineering, Molding, Melted Metals, Core Room, Cleaning & Finishing, Safety, Yard, and Personnel. Reported directly to the Materials Manager and Vice President of Plant Operations.
• Developed and implemented a cost-reduction program resulting in savings in excess of $750,000 annually in fiscal 2000 and $560,000+ annually for the first half of fiscal 2001.
• Instituted numerous Point-of-Use, consignment and Kanban systems to reduce excess inventory and costs.
• Worked directly with over 400 vendors nation-wide encompassing product, pricing, quality, delivery, expediting orders, and troubleshooting.
• Negotiated contracts for products, bulk materials and services by working with vendors using a teamwork approach in order to foster long-term business relationships.
• Implemented a Procurement Card Program and started an E-Procurement initiative for the company.

Reservation Specialist - Research Division - Inventory Control (1990-1992)
Responsible for the development of a database system for setting up, maintaining, tracking and auditing $20MM of reserve material for domestic and international customers. Coordinated stock transfer system between warehouses and the shipping facilities. Interacted with Shipping, Production, Order Entry, Purchasing and Customer Service Departments.
