Coordinator of Minority Recruitment &
Retention Programs/Scholarship Chair (July
2000 - Present)

Appointed to organize and implement
initiatives focused on increasing enrollment
and retaining volume of underrepresented
undergraduate student groups (African
American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American,
and Asian) while simultaneously responsible
for administering all facets of school
scholarships (Scholarship Chair role added
July 2004). First person in College of
Education to hold title of Coordinator of
Minority Recruitment & Retention Programs.

In Student Recruitment/Retention role: Develop
programs to propel student
recruitment/retention, liaise and maintain
contact with prospective students and families
to provide insight into university, deliver
presentations to campus visitors, represent
college and university at college/university
fairs and student receptions, provide current
students with academic advice and assist with
academic probation; also contribute to
graduation ceremonies and receptions.

In Scholarship Chair role: Award scholarships
in accordance with guideline requirements,
maintain scholarship files and guidelines,
organize and oversee annual recognition event,
and serve on undergraduate committee
responsible for providing members with updates
on scholarship process and funds allocation,
recipients, award policy updates, and new
scholarship updates; also maintain/track
restricted (scholarship) accounts/budgets.
Currently spearheading development of policy
and procedure document awarding scholarships.

Virtually doubled volume of underrepresented
students while simultaneously overcoming
challenges and obstacles brought on by time
divided amidst several time consuming tasks;
provided personal signature to all
correspondences, created extensive
communications timeline to update prospective
students on deadlines and special programs,
and provided direct line of communications for
students and parents seeking information.

* Member of university-wide diversity
committee, College Representatives; assist
with interviewing of potential scholarship
recipients, contribute to quarterly
academic districts (opportunity for
underrepresented students on scholarship
to be academically advised), and address
opportunities and methods to increase and
maintain volume of underrepresented
students.

* Serve as ex-officio on Dean's Advisory
Committee on Diversity (DAC/D); currently
working with DAC/D on development of
college climate survey to assess faculty,
students, and staff's openness to various
types of diversity.

* Contributed to development of agreement
between College of Education and College
of Health & Human Services on awarding
scholarships to Early Childhood students
(joint/seamless program between both
colleges).

NOTABLE ORGANIZATIONS AND EVENTS

* Leaders in Education Achieving Diversity
(L.E.A.D): Created and advised student
organization for underrepresented
students; organization provides solution
to current underrepresented students to
organize and address issues relative to
presence on predominately Caucasian
campus; organization simultaneously
supported recruitment initiative by
communicating with prospective
underrepresented students.

* NIA: Building Future Leaders, Manifesting
Excellence (April 2005): Worked in concert
with College of Education Upward Bound
staff on development of Career and
Professional/Personal Development
conference for Upward Bound students
statewide; conference attracted
approximately 50 high school students to
Athens campus as primary purpose
encouraged Upward Bound students to
continue education and provided workshops
about various career fields.

* Ohio Future Educators of America State
Conference (April 16, 2004): Coordinated
campus-sponsored participation in
education-related workshops attended by
more than 500 middle and high school
students/members of Future Educators of
America (FEA). College received $10,000
grant from Ohio Department of Education
for hosting conference.

* Black Like Us Social (Quarterly, 2002-
2003): As member of Dean's Advisory
Committee on Diversity, instrumental in
development and coordination of quarterly
social providing networking opportunity
for underrepresented students, faculty and
staff in College of Education.

Alumni Relations & Development Coordinator
(October 2002 - Present)

Oversee and maintain development office
operations amidst absence of Assistant Dean
for Development (February 2003 - Present);
originally placed to cold call high rated
alumni/prospects to schedule visits for
Assistant Dean for Development (October 2002 -
February 2003).

Role includes stewardship activities via
development and allocation of correspondences
on behalf of Dean, collaboration with alumni,
prospects, faculty, and staff in development
of alumni scholarship guidelines, and
development/maintenance of Development and
Alumni website; serve as conduit for
communications between advancement office and
alumni office. Supervise Advancement/Alumni
Relations Graduate Assistant. Also oversee
constituent society (Society of Alumni &
Friends) activities and executive/general
board meetings, administer constituent society
budget, and contribute as member of
constituent society faculty/alumni relations
subcommittee.

Spring Conference: Responsibilities
include conference advertising and
marketing, recruiting volunteers and
special guest facilitators/presenters,
creating participant and facilitator
certificates, hotel and workshop
reservations, catering for participants,
and supply of needed technical equipment.

* Society of Alumni & Friends Social,
Executive and general board meetings:
Ensure all board members have agendas,
reserve location, order/cater lunch, and
reserve hotel rooms for members.
