PROFESSIONAL OBJECTIVE My goal is to return to pediatric nursing and interested in areas other than hospital bedside nursing. Looking for Inland Empire or surrounding areas.
EXPERIENCE
Dec. 1997-2005 I worked as a Clinical Nurse III staff nurse and as a night shift charge nurse at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. This step down unit consisted of cardiac, renal, GI and transplant (heart, kidney, pancreas, small bowel, and lung) patients. Their ages varied from newborn to teenagers. Job responsibilities were multiple in knowing the diagnoses, performing treatments, giving medications, monitoring, assessments, use of equipment, charting, communication and teaching to families, communication with the medical team involved, and communication with the patient depending on their age, for each of my patients. I was also the committee chair for the mock code committee. I developed competencies for the nursing staff on our unit which involved emergency medications, use of defibrillator, trans-thoracic pacing, and use of temporary pacer wires with external pacer. I ran mock codes for staff improvement and teaching scenarios. I also taught one on one and in group exercises concerning correct code documentation. I was also on the Clinical Nurse III and Leadership committee.
Nov. 1993-Oct. 1997 I worked as home health nurse through Pediatric Home Care in Washington. I would work shifts of 8-12 hours in the patient’s home. I took care of children with various diagnoses and medical needs ranging from medications and GT feeds to those with tracheotomies and vents. Providing one on one care in the home, enriched my communication and involvement with the families and also enriched my nursing independence. In 1995 I was still employed by Pediatric Home Care but was under a contract to work at Children’s at Valley at Valley Medical Center. This unit was connected with Seattle Children’s. This was a small unit where there were 2 pediatric nurses on the night shift. Most of the patients had broken bones, needing hyperbili treatment, gastroenteritis, asthma, RSV, and bronchiolitis. In April 1996, the separate children’s unit was combined with the OB/GYN unit. I was the only night shift nurse on for pediatrics. The patient cliental was the same. I cross-trained nurses from the OB/GYN unit for pediatrics and I also cross-trained to OB/GYN and took a mixed patient load if the census was low in children.
June 1995-Oct. 1995 I worked as a registry nurse for Clinical Options in some pediatric units but mostly adults on medical and surgical units.
June 1991-Oct. 1993 I worked as a Clinical Nurse I then as a Clinical Nurse II at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. The unit was primarily GI, renal, asthma, and various diagnoses for school aged children. Responsibilities included fulfilling primary nurse requirements, unit committees, projects, educational classes, and relief charge nurse for the night shift.
Feb. 1991-June 1991 I was a CPR instructor at Zee Medical Service for businesses and industries.
EDUCATION
I graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a BSN in April 1991. I have taken many classes and online ceu’s relating to pediatric nursing.
