Objective: A position as Geologist/Hydrogeologist, Environmental Scientist, or related.
Experience: Field/Project Geologist, Enviro-Pro- Tech, Inc., Pensacola, Florida • Assisted professional geologists/hydrogeologists in performing initial and supplemental site assessment activities on petroleum storage facilities under the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Pre- Approval Program. Site assessment phase activities included: file review and site/area surveys; soil sampling using hand augers, split spoons, and direct push technology (DPT); soil petroleum hydrocarbon vapor screening utilizing total vapor analyzer (TVA); soil lithological descriptions/characterization; soil sampling for laboratory analysis; field decisions concerning placement of soil borings and monitoring wells; “hands-on” supervision of monitoring well installation; groundwater sampling for laboratory analysis utilizing submersible and peristaltic pumps, multi-parameter stabilization probe/ single-parameter units, and hand bailers; top-of-casing surveys for groundwater elevation calculations; reporting with table and figure generation including groundwater and soil quality iso-concetration contour maps, lithological cross-sections, and groundwater contour/flow direction maps, etc. • Assisted engineering staff during remedial strategy development and implementation phases. Duties included: implementation of natural attenuation monitoring; installation and operation/maintenance of soil vapor and groundwater extraction remediation systems, collection of data (radius of influence, flow/vacuum, etc.) from remedial systems; provided oversight, data collection, and sampling during conventional source soil excavations as well as soil excavations with groundwater treatment and/or chemical treatment technology; and reporting with figure and table generation for each stage of remedial action. • Performed Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) for private entities involving various contaminants of concern (soil, groundwater, and surface waters), including petroleum products, dry- cleaning solvents, metals, etc. Same duties and methods as described above with the addition of added client interaction, cost proposal/contract preparation, supervision of delegated tasks, and other aspects of project management. • All activities, including reporting, were completed under the supervision of professional geologists and/or professional engineers. Environmental Technician, Center for Environmental Diagnostics and Bioremediation, Department of Biology, University of West Florida. Pensacola, Florida • Sediment and surface water sampling for urban bayou, creek, and estuary pollution studies as part of the Partnership for Environmental Research and Community Health (PERCH) project. • Data entry and reporting with figure and table generation; data entry and QA/QC for PERCH’s online bibliography.
