April 2003 - Dec. 2004: Seminole Tribe of Florida, Hollywood, FL
Editor, Seminole Tribune: Wrote, photographed and edited stories for award-winning Native American newspaper. Supervised/delegated stories to staff/freelance writers and assisted with layout design. Collaborated with Seminole community and intertribal departments to develop stories for paper.

First to establish freelance writers at each of the six Seminole reservations. Instrumental in changing newspaper format from black and white to full color and expanding size from 12 pages to 24-32 pages. Increased readership and promoted newspaper at numerous events.

Oct. 2000 – April 2003: Seminole Tribe of Florida, Hollywood, FL
Library Branch Manager: Dorothy Scott Osceola Memorial Library, Hollywood Reservation: Supervised library, computer center, and volunteer staff. Assisted community with library materials, computer classes, and educational software. Selected reading materials, including books, magazines, educational CD-ROMS, and games. Presented bi-weekly story time to children, prepared many craft activities and offered computer classes for adults.

First to implement Scholastic Book Fair, art classes, community art exhibits, extended library hours twice a week, and movie night. Created a convenient book delivery service for seniors. Wrote articles promoting events and highlighted exceptional students at the library for the Seminole Tribune and Seminole cable channel. Volunteered for many tribal functions such as the annual Seminole Tribal Fair, youth conferences and health department events.


South Regional / Broward College Library Film Programs
• Created summer 2009 Book to Film program. Showed films based on best-selling Juvenile/Teen fiction. Averaged 81 people. Attendance was the best of any Broward Library film program ever.

• October Monster Movie Double Feature Nights (2008). Increased attendance from 1-3 people to an average of 50 people. Created all promotional advertising materials. Partnered with South Regional Friends of the Library to be the official concession stand. Movie programs are now weekly.

Youth Services Programs

• “Shark Talk” and Craft: Invited Marine Biologist from FIU to discuss sharks via a PowerPoint presentation and interactive display of fossilized shark teeth, jaw, followed by and informative Q & A session. Children then created a 2-foot papier mache shark.

• 4 Guys Only – Created a book club dedicated to promoting reading among middle school boys.

• Make a Dolphin/Meet a Dolphin – Children of all ages created a papier-mache dolphin and later met a Miami Dolphins player and team mascot.

• Supersized Styrofoam Art programs: Children applied colored tissue paper with a glue/water mix to 8-foot Styrofoam dinosaurs, sharks, butterflies, and Pokémon characters.

• “That’s a Wrap” Mummy craft program. To coincide with the King Tut Exhibition closing at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, children used strips of paper towels, dabbed them in a glue/water mix, and wrapped it around a precut Styrofoam mummy shape.

Outreach Programs for Main Library Youth Services Department:
*Primary outreach librarian for story time programs at schools, museums, and nature centers.

• Lighthouse for the Blind, Fort Lauderdale, FL – Initiated an interactive papier-mache art workshop for vision-impaired students. Both children and staff were extremely enthusiastic about it.

• Museum of Discovery and Science, Fort Lauderdale, FL – Collaborated with museum by creating unique art projects to coincide with exhibits. Cut out 8-foot sharks and dinosaurs from Styrofoam.

• Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale, FL – Collaborated with museum by presenting story times and interactive visuals to coincide with The Quilts of Gees Bend, Cradles of Christianity, and Great Age of American Automobiles exhibits. Created an 8-foot car puzzle and more.

• Anne Kolb Nature Center, Hollywood, FL – First to initiate afternoon story time and nature craft program for the center.


Honors and Awards:

Nominated from 2006 - 2009 for Super Service Award. Received Rapid Reward bonus from 2006 - 2009 for Broward County SunSational Service. Received bonus vacation days for great attendance in 2009.
