Objective:
To work as animal breeder or in-vivo research technologist in a long-term position.


Experience:
2004 – present (temporarily work visa): Genetics Korea Ltd. Consulting in setting up a SPF genetic breeding (micro-pigs) facility, writing SOP’s and the “Policy and Procedures” manual for IACUC.

2003 – 2004: University of California San Diego, USA. Animal husbandry of a Transgenic and Knockout-breeding colony. Census and health checks (virus free environment), inform PI’s on the techniques of different breeding programs (0ne year TN1 Work Visa holder).

2003 (temporarily for set-up): Xenon Genetics Inc., Canada. Setting up the newly built Xenon Vivarium, with input in the design. Ordering cages and other equipments needed to run the facility on a daily basis. Furthermore, monitoring the newly set-up environmental parameters such as humidity, temperature and balanced airflow in positive and negative areas, throughout the facility. Overseeing preclinical studies. Wrote for Xenon, the Vivarium “Policy and Procedures” manual and several SOP’s.

2000 – 02: BioMarin Pharmaceutical, formerly known as Synapse Technologies Inc., Canada. Head Department Animal Care. Responsibilities: Breeding colony of Transgenic and Knockout mice (tail biopsies – DNA probe), Responsible of mice undergoing experiments, Experimental work (immunizations, bleedings & Xenograft), Ordering of supply (food, bedding, cages, etc.), Scheduling weekend work, Supervising staff, Member of the Institutional Animal Care Committee, Viewing and writing SOP’s for reoccurring surgical and/or technical procedures (departmental administration-computer).

1994 – 00: UBC Biotechnology Laboratory – Synapse Technologies Inc., Canada. Senior Research Associate (yearly contract). Responsibilities: Breeding colony of Transgenic and Knockout mice (tail biopsies – DNA probe), Responsible of mice undergoing experiments, Experimental work (immunizations and bleedings), Monoclonal and Polyclonal antibody production (rabbits/mice) and Pre-clinical trial studies. Ordering of supply (food, bedding, cages, etc.), Scheduling weekend work, Supervising staff, Member of the Animal Care Committee, Viewing and writing SOP’s, submitting Animal Uses Protocols. University of BC, class enrolment: “Bio-Safety and Environment”.

1989 – 91: SA Innogenetics-Neogentec Biotechnology NV, Belgium. Research Associate (yearly contract). Responsibilities: Head Animal Research Technician, Monoclonal and Polyclonal antibody production (rabbits), Experimental work on mice, rabbits and Yucatan pigs (immunizations, bleedings and necropsy), Ordering of supply (food, bedding, etc). Supervising staff, organizing weekend schedules, Administration (computer), Design and implementing a barrier facility. PW Open University, class enrolment: “Animal Husbandry, Genetics & Breeding”.

1986 – 89: Mount Sinai Research Centre, Canada. Assistant to the Research Manager.
Responsibilities: Assistant Manager Vivarium, Supervisor Breeding Unit, Breeding Transgenic mice and athymic nude mice, experimental work on mice (immunizations and bleedings), Supervise and trained new staff, Member of the Animal Care Committee, Departmental administration. Lyon Veterinary College, class enrolment: “Master Lab. Animal Science”.

1984 – 86: European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Germany. Chief Animal Technician (contract). Responsibilities: Breeding of Transgenic mice, Monoclonal and Polyclonal antibody production (rabbits/mice), Experimental work on mice, rats, frogs, chickens (immunizations and bleedings), Design and implementing a barrier facility, Supervise and trained new staff.

1978 – 84: University of British Columbia, Canada. Senior Animal Technician (grant funded). Responsibilities: Breeding mice (breeding administration), taking care rats, Rhesus monkeys, assisting scientists in their in-vivo research work, immunizations and bleedings. Michigan State University, class enrolment: “Veterinary Technician”.
