I have had a really interesting and rewarding career. Very early in my career as an industrial engineer, at the urging of an acquaintance in the process of building a consulting firm, I made an exciting and fateful shift in my focus that has defined my career for the 20 years since. My friend required an individual capable of bringing the discipline of an engineered approach to his consultancy practice and business operations. With a recently earned IE degree and an already established record of success leading change, managing staff, and delivering solid productivity and profit improvements within industrial settings, I was the person he sought. Over the next eight years, I was instrumental in the growth of that consultancy to $5 million sales, eventually playing a key role in developing an M&A program, forming a privately funded bank holding company, and then raising $15 million in an IPO to fund acquisition of commercial banks (I was the executive in charge of performing due diligence and selecting/negotiating acquisitions to allocate that $15 million).
