Cheraw, SC Plant Superintendent (10/06-1/09) Responsible for the manufacturing of green brick for a 3 mill facility producing 150mm brick annually and 1 specialized shapes department. Managed budgets, personnel safety, technical management, staffing, training, production, grading and packaging lines.
Waverly Particleboard LLC -. Waverly ,VA Operations Manager (5/05-10/06) Responsible for the re-start of an idled particleboard plant. Managed all internal operations of the mill including safety, technical management, staffing, training, production, finishing and shipping. 5x16 Washington Iron Works press line. Mill came on-line ahead of schedule and reached prior capacity in 6 months. Mill achieved a 7 day order file within the first year.
Weyerhaeuser Company- Carolina Particleboard -Formerly Willamette Industries plant. Bennettsville ,SC Technical Director (12/02-5/05) Responsible for all quality related processes in the mill including new product development, customer relations, interaction with sales and distribution groups, product costing, lab testing, compliance and continuous improvement to mill processes. Developed Statistical Database for lab use in determining physical property outcome. Department head for Shipping. Plant Superintendent II (3/01-12/02) Directly involved with start-up of a new state of the art 10’ Particleboard line. Mill capacity rated for 220 mmsf ¾”. Worked with various equipment suppliers including a 10’ continuous Dieffenbacher press, Valmet mechanical formers, Bliss hammermills, Andritz 45” atmospheric refiners, Buttner single pass recirculation dryers, a 10’ Imeas Sander, Lukki storage system and a fully automated Schelling finishing line. Responsible for recruiting, staffing, training and direct supervision pf 90 mill personnel and 5 salaried supervisors.
Georgia-Pacific Corporation Monticello, GA Plant Superintendent II MDF (7/00-3/01) Responsible for a new MDF Bison 4’ continuous press line producing 225mmsf 1/8” thin hdf annually. Responsible for all mill operations including safety, quality, production, and maintenance.
Plant Superintendent Panelboard (7/99-7/00) Managed all aspects of the Panelboard manufacturing facility. Key responsibilities involved making process changes to make a 25-year-old mill profitable. Two 8’ wide Minde press lines capable of producing 350mmsf particleboard 1/8” annually. Finishing responsibilities in paper lamination and paint line for decorative paneling finished product. Temple-Inland Forest Products Corporation-Formerly MacMillan Bloedel Clarion Ltd. Clarion, PA Finishing/Shipping Superintendent & Safety Manager (2/99-7/99) Responsibilities include management of the site’s safety program, shipping, finishing and sanding area management, process improvement processes and development of the skillbase system. This position is basically the same position described below but with expanded duties in the management of the finished goods warehouse and shipping department. Acts as Production Manager in his absence.
Safety Resources Manager (10/98-2/99) Responsibilities include safety, human resources, finishing and sanding area, process improvement processes and development of the skillbase system. Primary responsibility is for the sites safety program and managing the finishing and sanding areas.
HR activities included maintaining and developing the training and resources needed to support self-directed work teams. Work with the Technical Director in developing technician’s involvement in process improvement projects. Assist the Production Manager in maintaining and upgrading the pay-for-skills system. MacMillan Bloedel Clarion Limited Partnership-A new MDF facility producing 120 MMSF Clarion, PA Process Team Leader (4/98-10/98) Involved in full-time projects including improvements to the site safety performance, finishing and sanding line improvements and support team to help develop the continuous improvement processes. Finishing and sanding line uptime increased from 65% to 85% and the sites MIR was reduced from 10.3 to 4.4.
Process Team Leader (4/96-4/98) Directly involved with building and start-up of new state of the art facility. Duties prior to start-up included receiving and approving quotes for forklifts, tooling, sander-belts, production and packaging supplies. Participated in group selection of 78 process & maintenance technicians from a field of 1200 applicants. Developed pay-for-skills system for core and technical skills training using Claymore system. Developed an all-salaried, self-directed work force using the Weisemann group. Developed facility safety program using DuPont consultants. Worked with various equipment suppliers including a 10’ continuous Siemplekamp press, ASB 60” series refiners, EPI fluidized bed combustor, Westec dryers, a 6’ Steinemann Sander and a fully automated Con-Vey finishing line.
Weyerhaeuser Corporation-A composite panel complex producing Particleboard and MDF. Moncure, NC Production Team Leader (6/93-4/96) Directly supervise employees involved with manufacturing 105MMSF ¾” annually of Microboard product. Duties included panel production from log processing through pressing and trimming with emphasis on safety, quality, productivity and cost control. Finishing Team Leader (8/90-6/93) Responsible for the sanding and cut-to-size operation for the Microboard finishing line. Supervised 12 employees in cutting standard 9’x24’ panels into component pieces as small as 12”x12” through a book cutting Schelling saw and 8 head 9’ Steinemann sander. Duties included managing both production and maintenance functions as well as purchasing of all packaging supplies.

Developed permit-required confined space entry program for Weyerhaeuser in 1994. Beginning with only the 1910.146 OSHA standard I put together a program which included identifying 80 PRCSE points, writing entry procedures and developing an internal emergency response team. Duties of the response team included training in handling medical emergency and rescue. Scored a 5.0 with best industry practice out of possible 5.0 during a Weyerhaeuser external safety audit. Successful in keeping Moncure plant union free during a UPIU organization attempt. Worked with company law team and senior managers in keeping information flowing freely between team members and management. Team voted to remain free from third party representation by a margin of 3:1. Instituted a study to reduce the packaging costs on the Microboard finishing line which realized a savings of $80,000 a year by negotiating with suppliers of sander belts, bolsters, banding and cover sheets. Participated in the 1990 build-out of the Microboard finishing line, which increased finish line productivity by 40% in the first full year. Included replacing a 9’ sander and installing a stacking line on the outfeed of our Schelling saw. Formed and facilitated a finishing improvement team to focus on improvements to productivity and quality. Uptime on the finishing line increased from 65% to 85%. Headed the general manager’s safety council. By focusing on behaviors related to people’s actions, awareness and attitudes we were able to reduce our MIR by 50%. Received CPA award for most improved safety performance of 65 reporting mills. Experience with Continuous, Multi-opening and Minde press lines on MDF and Particleboard products ranging in thickness from 1/10” to 1 1/2”. Produced resin cost savings in excess of $500,000 through resin trials and product recipe development. Responsible for development of a low density M2 INDPB, Moisture resistant and M3 product lines for the Carolina mill.
