The Office of State Representative Robert Schenck: Spring Hill, FL 2006-Present

Senior Legislative Assistant

Responsible for filing and tracking legislation in an effort to assist in the passage of the Representative’s proposed legislation. This entailed discussing the Representative’s legislative ideas and priorities with committee, council, and state agency staff. In order to make the Representative’s constituency aware of the status of his proposed legislation, I frequently prepared press releases and organized press conferences. Maintained a strong relationship with the Representative’s constituency by assisting constituents with business license applications, Medicaid issues, property tax and property insurance questions, etc. Attended and organized state and local meetings and other events on behalf of the Representative in an effort to recognize the community’s needs. During 2007, I discussed property tax issues multiple constituents daily. I provided them with knowledge of the Representative’s proposed legislation and the Legislature’s proposed changes.

-Assisted the Representative in crafting language to adjust the way property taxes are calculated by the Property Appraiser. This bill provided for a roll-back in property taxes to 1994, before the Save Our Homes Cap was implemented, and inflated forward by 3 % or the CPI, whichever was lower.

-During the 2007 Legislative Session, I assisted the Representative with the passage of CS/HB 1031 relating to Expedited Permitting for Economic Development Projects, by the Florida House of Representatives.

-Assisted a barber shop (A-n-B Haircuts, Spring Hill, FL), in acquiring their business license from the Department of Business and Professional Regulation.

-Provided the Hernando County Engineering Department with assistance in acquiring a notice of intent to issue permit notice, from the Department of Environmental Protection. This project had been stalled for the past ten years.

-During the 2008 Legislative Session, I assisted in the organization of a press conference for House Bill 559, relating to the Distribution of Material Harmful to Minors. This press conference was aired on Bay News 9 and as a result HB 559 has been discussed in dozens of newspaper articles. This piece of legislation was passed by both the House and Senate and signed into law by the Governor of the State of Florida.

Member of the Kim Berfield for State Senate Campaign

Responsible for conducting “Door to Doors” with the campaigns “Grass Roots” team. Also, provided assistance at fundraisers for the candidate with other members of the campaign.

-Contributed to a “Grass Roots Team” that set unprecedented records in the amount of voters reached.

The Office of State Senator Mike Fasano: New Port Richey, FL June 2005-Dec. 2005

Responsible for speaking with constituents regarding complaints and comments about legislation. Attended various organizational conferences with Senator Fasano.

-Accompanied Senator Fasano to Cape Canaveral. Mr. Fasano was a member of a committee whose goal was to try to raise funds for outer space exploration.
