Objective:
My last two positions, I have been tasked to create a Risk Management Program from the ground up. My current position required the design, training and implementation of a Risk Program for the largest professional liability carrier in Oklahoma. We insure approximately 60% of the physicians in the state. I designed the online incident reporting tool, created and implemented the companies first Risk Management Discount Program and built a staff that included MDs, JDs, and RNs. Prior to my current position, I was a System Risk Manager in South Texas for a multi-facility health system. There to, I build the Risk Management program from the ground up.

South Texas Health System in McAllen

Responsible for creating and managing the Risk management Program for 927 licensed beds which included three acute care facilities, a rehabilitation institute, 100 bed Children's Hospital and a behavioral health center. Main campus is a full service facility with a Women's Center responsible for 6000 deliveries annually. Duties include Risk Management education program for all staff, court appearances, mediation/depositions, patient relations and staff concerns. Receive and address complaints and grievances. Prepare and manage files on potential claims and files that are in litigation. Investigate issues with hospital department personnel and formulate typed responses to each request. Work with hospital attorneys preparing/completing written discovery with appropriate production of relevant documents. Created a proactive environment within our facility. Responsible for reducing open claims by 73% and lowered reserves by 88%. Supervised a staff of 9.

Assistant Risk Manager for Navy Medicine
Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) in Washington, D.C.
August 1995 to August 1997
Assistant to BUMED Risk Manage for all of Navy Medicine (worldwide). Provided risk management support, advice and direction to 59 medical and dental treatment facilities. Assisted Risk Management in Designing and implementing the first risk management training program that resulted in 128 Certified Risk Managers. Worked to make risk management a more visible, viable program throughout Navy medicine. Project Manager for deployment and training of risk managers on the Centralized Credentials Quality Assurance System (CCQAS). Liaison between BUMED and Navy risk managers worldwide.
