Objective: Solutions-focused and highly knowledgeable petroleum engineering professional with 8+ years of experience in off-shore and on-land drilling operations. Combines advanced expertise in drilling fluid systems with a strong practical experience in all facets of drilling & completions operations. Takes the initiative to investigate and resolve complex field issues. Brings an extensive record of successes identifying process, training and technology improvements that deliver measurable results in cost control, environmental protection, risk mitigation and well production. I am very interested in launching my career into the next level by applying my experience and education to the DRILLING ENGINEERING level.
Experience: PROJECT ENGINEER (Rotational) 2007 - Present Rheochem, Perth, Australia - Brought on board to provide specialized expertise in fluids and solids control optimization for two onshore operations in the Australian outback, a remote location that presents multifaceted complexities ranging from difficult access logistics to environmental sensitivities and problematic drilling risks due to soft geophysical formations.
PROJECT ENGINEER & TECHNICAL SERVICES ENGINEER 2005 - 2007 OFFSHORE DRILLING FLUIDS ENGINEER 2004 - 2005 Q’Max Solutions Inc., St. John’s, Newfoundland - Initially retained by Q’Max Solutions Inc. to oversee drilling fluids engineering for two off-shore rigs operated by Husky Energy. With the acquisition of a contract with Petro Canada, selected to spearhead Technical Services for East Coast Canada operations. - Assumed primary responsibility for all aspects of drilling fluids engineering, including drilling fluid selection & design, solids control equipment requirements, waste management protocols, as well as personnel management, cost estimates and budget administration. - Extensive use of procurement steps, from carrying out of the tendering process, negotiating contracts to the maintenance of those contracts. - Liaising between the client and several sub-contractors of services and equipment providers to provide cost effective solutions to operational problems. - One very good example of a procurement initiative is collaborating on the conception and implementation of an SBM processing unit to recycle synthetic based mud by using a high performance disk stack centrifuge to remove ultrafine solids. Environmentally sustainable solution resulted in $500k in cost avoidance for fluid disposals, and provided ongoing savings to the clients purchasing costs. - Provided clients with detailed cost-benefit analyses of technology alternatives for minimizing waste. - Actively monitored industry developments and apply the best available technology (BAT) in solid control systems, waste management initiatives and onshore disposal techniques. - Conduct fracture gradient/pore pressure predictions to determine casing seat depths and calculate adequate fluid density for well control calculations, with benchmarking of all lessons learned. - Monitor all drilling parameters, drilling mechanics, hydraulics and formation evaluation for indicators of a mechanical failure or wellbore instability. - Planned, administered and conducted variance analyses on annual operating budgets of $4+ million. - Conducted internal audits of offshore drilling facilities to ensure adherence with policies and regulations. - Liaises with geologists and directional driller on an ongoing basis to review upcoming geophysical changes and adapt drilling parameters based on fluid properties. - Established the company’s credibility in India as the firm sought to expand globally. Worked on-site to manage pre-sales engineering for environmental services tenders for land-based and offshore operations. - Provided the industry regulator with detailed analysis of environmental discharges over a three year period to demonstrate the company’s compliance with environmental protection standards. - Took the initiative to design and deliver a week-long course in drilling fluids for drilling engineers/drilling managers. The course, which balanced theory with laboratory work, was delivered to groups of 10 to 12 client drilling engineers four times a year, with plans in the works for a course targeted to completion engineers and rig managers.
OFFSHORE DRILLING FLUIDS ENGINEER 2000 - 2004 LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST 1999 - 2000 M-I Swaco Canada Inc., St. Johns, Newfoundland - Acquired experience on production platforms, jack-ups, semi-submersibles, and developed advanced expertise in SBM management techniques, environmental compliance, and solids control optimization. - Became a subject matter expert on the Onetrax software, creating a simplified user guide that substantially improved the integrity of input data and increased the accuracy of well-end recap reports, locally on the east coast of Canada.
