Drew and Harbor/UCLA medical centers).
Featured speaker in a press conference hosted by the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP) and the Commonwealth Fund, held at the National Press Club which received widespread national media, airing live on C-SPAN in August 1998. The event highlighted the AAHP’s new Women’s Health Initiative, in which WIN ABC’s Breast Buddy Breast Care Program, in partnership with Kaiser Permanente Southern California, was recognized as a new best practice and benchmark of care for patients.

Committed to increase funding for breast cancer research. “Betsy Mullen embodies what is right about advocacy. Her tireless efforts of behalf of those suffering from Breast Cancer are simply amazing. She was a major force behind The Breast Cancer Research Stamp, which is among the most successful commemorative stamps of all time. These proceeds directly benefit cancer research and associated projects. The world would be a better place if we had more "Betsy Mullen's" fighting the good fight.”
Sherry Mulne, President, Business Directions, Inc., Columbus, Ohio
“After helping to create and implement a unique partnership between WIN Against Breast Cancer and The National NeedleArts Association, Betsy continues to pour her creative talents, energy and time into keeping the spirit of the campaign alive. Because of her knowledge of the ins-ands-outs involved and her efforts on behalf of the campaign, we received a video-taped endorsement from United States Senator Dianne Feinstein (CA), as well as an invitation to a special ceremony at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum in Washington DC. Betsy is a true professional. From years of experience working with government entities, she knows how to cut through the red tape, talk to the right people, and get the job done.”
Rob Toonkel, Legislative Office, United States House of Representatives, Washington, D.C.
“To know Betsy is to know the embodiment of dedication and perseverance. What makes her so successful – and an asset to any project – is her tireless passion to achieving her goals. One only needs to look at her efforts behind the creation and reauthorization of the Breast Cancer Research Stamp to know that when Betsy is involved, everyone wins.”
Sara DeRousse, Senior Director of Global Marketing, Mentor Corporation
“I was honored to work with Betsy and support her efforts when she spearheaded the Breast Cancer Awareness Stamp. Betsy is extremely passionate, she is visionary in her ideas and is unstoppable once she sets her mind to a goal. As a speaker she is extremely articulate and eloquent and delivers her message from the heart, which is particularly moving. I have found her to be very collaborative, innovative and resourceful, with the rare ability to enlist the support of politicians, executives, physicians and lobbyists. She is a force to be reckoned with.”
Don Parsons, Permanente National Legislative Director, Kaiser Permanente, Denver, Colorado
“Betsy was Co-founder of the Breast Cancer Research Stamp. Her legislative skills are exemplary. Also, Betsy founded Women's Information Network Against Breast Cancer (WIN-ABC), a highly effective peer support program. As part of that program, she began the Breast Buddies program at several southern California Kaiser Permanente facilities. This program demonstrated the great value of peer support and the potential for patient-to-patient education regarding breast cancer.”
Jim Hock, Press Secretary, United States Senator Dianne Feinstein, Washington, D.C.
“Betsy is indefatigable. She was incredibly powerful as a brainchild and lobby power behind the Breast Cancer Stamp. Dianne always gave her kudos for her untiring work to make this amazing stamp -- which has raised millions for research -- a reality.”
Michael Krop, Logistics Manager, United States Postal Service, Washington, D.C.
“Betsy is a passionate, focused advocate for the cure of Breast Cancer. She is the type of person that can direct her energy to a worthwhile cause and will see it through. Professional and skilled in working with others, Ms. Mullen is an asset to any team.”
Allison Huerta, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Analysis and Microbiology, Allergan, Irvine, California
“Betsy is an incredibly dedicated, hard working, and giving person. She has gone out of her way to help those affected by breast cancer, including my friend, who was recently diagnosed. Betsy took the initiative to provide assistance with the managed healthcare organization and physicians in order to ensure the best care possible. I feel truly grateful that Betsy has stepped into our lives at this most critical time. She is truly a selfless person that has devoted her life to helping others and has made a significant contribution to support ongoing research.”
Azeezaly Jaffer globalprpros@yahoo.com, Executive Director, Stamp Services, United States Postal Service, Washington, D.C.
“Betsy is to be credited with issuance of the first Semi-Postal Stamp for Breast Cancer Awareness. When all had given up hope, Betsy remained committed to the pursuit of the cause. By sharing her compelling story, she was able to change the history of the U.S. Stamp program with the issuance of the Breast Cancer Awareness Semi-Postal Stamp. Pennies at a time and several years later, over $57.8 million has been raised to help find a cure. Betsy is passionate, honest, hard working and knows how to mobilize multifaceted grass roots campaigns. I am proud to have stood with her at the beginning and even prouder to know her as a friend and above all else, a "SURVIVOR".”
Roger C. Memos, Independent Film and Television Producer, Los Angeles, California
“As coordinating producer on the NBC show "Starting Over" I had the pleasure of booking Betsy as a guest on our program. Betsy came on the show to offer support to a young woman, Allison, who was just finishing up with chemotherapy. Betsy was most compassionate in dealing with Allison's delicate state of mind. I was most impressed at how she put many of Allison's fears to rest with her easy and gentle manner. Betsy "saved" my life a second time on the show when I was given a week to "throw together" a breast cancer fundraiser for Allison to sponsor on the program. Betsy took the bull by the horn. She helped me conceptualize, plan and implement the event. With her guidance we were able to pull off a classy event (fashion show, needlepoint exhibition, celebrity and political guests honoring Allison). We did all this with only four days of prep….She gave her heart and soul to our event. My executive producer was so impressed with Betsy's ability to pull in her team of experts as she did for this event. I couldn't have pulled this event off without Betsy Mullen. I highly recommend Betsy as a TV expert in the field of breast cancer, cancer prevention and related field. Her story of how she got the breast cancer research stamp into post offices across the country is quite remarkable as well as inspiring.”
