Objective:
Sourcing or Purchasing Director in a western manufacturing company which plans to buy low-cost components or materials from Asia especially in China so that I could fully utilize my expertise to maximize my value added and career advancement.


Experience:
EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE
Asian Sourcing Director (December 2005 – Now)
SSW Holding Company (a hardware company from US), Guangzhou China

• Set up a brand new sourcing office in China, hire purchasing engineers and quality engineers and take charge of all operations in Asia including administration management
• Maintain inventory levels to provide good asset turnover consistent with efficient support of production activities and purchasing economies
• Select suppliers, assess supplier capabilities, evaluate supplier performance, and negotiate price, delivery and terms.
• Promote the use of proactive quality planning tools such as FMEA, PPAP, CPK, PPM and SPC as part of the prevention process.
• Manage all of purchasing activities including RFQ, samples and tooling timeline, engineering samples submittal and approval, manufacturing, quality control and logistics
• Help suppliers to improve the manufacturing process and solve bottleneck problem in order to meet customer’s requirement and improve production efficiency
• Develop alternative sources as necessary in order to ensure continuity of supply, quality and competitive pricing
• Develop strategy and analysis to support effective negotiation
• Manage and perform sourcing activities including vendor identification, risk assessment, quote analysis, contract development, contract negotiation, and purchase order placement
• Conduct supplier visit to evaluate manufacturing, quality, engineering & other discipline, and to provide objective reports on overall capabilities

Key Accomplishments:

• Through two year’s work, our business in China reached US$4,000,000. The total saving cost per year is more than US$800,000. During the last two years, we do not have any serious quality problem and delivery delay.

Sourcing Manager (May 1999 - March 2004)
Electra Air Conditioner Company, Shenzhen China

• Establish a global supplier base (with a focus in China) to provide components that meet quality, delivery and cost expectation
• Leads the process of qualifying and selecting appropriate suppliers in terms of supplier financial status, capacity, corporate technical and quality standards and business requirement within given time frame and lead key contract negotiation
• Perform all necessary actions to secure timely delivery of goods according to corporate requirements
• Maintain a database of qualified suppliers, measure supplier performance constantly and develop strategies to improve overall supplier performance
• Resolving problems with quality and assisting suppliers effort to improve their quality and production processes
• Develop material cost and inventory reduction targets through cost accounting and financial analysis
• Conduct supplier visit to evaluate manufacturing, quality, engineering & other discipline, and to provide objective reports on overall capabilities
• Benchmark and negotiate pricing, terms, and other commercial related issues with potential suppliers to ensure fair market pricing

Key Accomplishments:

• I made a big success in ODM project, Window Type Air Conditioner KC50 from Electrolux Company in USA. Through my effort, I reduced the material cost from the estimated US $280 per unit to US $250 per unit. The total sale of this type of Air Conditioner was 20,000 units. As a result, I saved US $600,000 for the whole project.

Gree Electrical Appliances Company, Zhuhai China (August 1995 - May 1999)
Project Manager (September 1997 - May 1999)

• Allocate project resource to meet project goals, identify project risks, and develop a project schedule with key milestone and contingency plans
• Develops cost and performance goals for the project; track progress against these goals. Responsible for managing the overall budgets of assigned projects
• Lead projects from the pre-study until the start of production according to the internal development rules
• Project planning implementation, control & review with related manufacturing parties (Production, QA, Engineering, Material) and the responsible team members
• Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, with agreed-upon scope and according to corporate quality standards

Project Engineer (August 1995 - September 1997)

• Assist in ISO 9000 and ISO 14001 implementation and compliance
• Provide manufacturing engineering and process support to suppliers during the pre-production and prototype build activities
• Prepare detail project plans including statements of technical objectives and approaches, task breakdowns, schedule, project cost estimate and product cost analysis.
• Identify and interface with suppliers for the procurement of components and the resolution of technical issues
• Complete documentation required to release all designs to production including mechanical drawings, bills of material, assembly drawings, engineering change orders, etc.
• Research, develop, design and evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical materials, components, assemblies and process

Key Accomplishment:
• I finished EDS25 project in only three months from the initiation of project to the release into market. Through my excellent cooperation with other departments and suppliers, I reduced delivery time of major components dramatically. Furthermore, the material cost of EDS 25 was 10% lower compared with the similar products from competitors.

Junior Mechanical Engineer (July 1993- August 1995)
GD Automotive Parts Company, Foshan China

• Prepare simple plans and designs, calculations and bills of material in accordance with established codes, standards, drawings and other specifications
• Provide technical support for production equipment to ensure productivity and quality targets are met
• Troubleshoot problems with production and take corrective action
• Conduct testing on parts and finished product to verify performance and durability
• Documentation of engineering changes including drafting design proposal
• Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phase of research and development
• Assure proper documentation to support master production schedule
• Work in conjunction with project manager to resolve design issues
Key Accomplishment:
• During these two years, I made a great improvement in the noise level of C117 series of compressor from 60dB to 55dB. That was much lower than the national standard: 65dB. At the same time, the coefficient of power was increased from 1.5 to 1.8.
