Objective: I would like a position in the area of training and development. I am a creative and efficient worker who welcomes challenges and adjusts easily to a variety of expectations and conditions in my working environment. I have worked as a team member in a variety of capacities in an educational setting and have studied extensively the areas of educational methods, administration, and technology.
Experience: 1988-2006: My duties and accomplishments as a language arts and gifted education teacher in grades seven and eight at Los Alamos Middle School in Los Alamos, New Mexico, included the following: -Writing curriculum, policies, grants, and evaluations of programs -Presenting instructional methods at the 1990 New Mexico International Reading Association Conference -Training staff and faculty in use of technology -Training staff and faculty to facilitate in an inclusion classroom -Planning and implementing instructional materials and units to include regular, gifted, and special education students in a language arts/social studies interdisciplinary program.
1984-1987: As a part-time GED instructor for Luna Vocational-Technical Institute in Las Vegas, New Mexico, I taught language arts, reading, and math at the high school level and developed many of my own instructional methods and materials.
1982-1987: I maintained consistently excellent evaluations as a seventh grade language arts teacher at Raton Middle School in Raton, New Mexico, while completing my school administration internship and a graduate degree program.
Education: Education Specialist Certificate, Fall 1994. University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Master of Arts in Secondary School Administration, Summer 1987. New Mexico Highlands University, Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Bachelor of Science, Secondary Education, teaching fields: language arts and visual arts, Fall 1979. New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Skills: I have skills and experience in writing curriculum, policies, grants, and evaluations of programs.I have excellent public speaking skills and have presented before large groups in conferences, school board meetings, and assemblies. I have trained public school staff and faculty in use of technology. I am very experienced and successful in planning, creating and implementing instructional materials.
Additional Information: Much of my experience, not strictly relevant to education, illustrates my adaptability. For example, from 1999 to 2004, my husband and I cleared land, built a road, and designed and built a solar, off-the-grid home in the Jemez Mountains of New Mexico. We used the profits from the sale of the house and land to establish ourselves in Seattle and buy, restore, and maintain a 1922 classic wooden yacht, the Argonaut II. Last year we refastened and recaulked the entire seventy-three foot hull of the boat and continue to work to maintain varnish, systems, and the 1947 engine. As you can see, I am well able to face challenges, adapt to changing conditions, and work very hard.
