Objective: Mark G. Bloomfield
After 10 years working in the live entertainment business, I have decided that I want to return to my first love, Natural Resource Management. What I loved about working in this field is the variety of natural systems you are exposed to. I found that I had missed the physical activities associated with this type of work, as well as being outdoors.
I am looking for employment in technical aspects of wildlife management / studies. It has been a long time since I have worked in the field and I am enthusiastic about continuing my education through varied field experiences, and I am willing to start in an entry-level position. I enjoy being challenged physically as well as mentally.
Most of my early experiences in this field took place in the southeastern U.S. I worked for many years as a volunteer on projects ranging from peregrine falcon habitat studies, black bear telemetry, brook trout restoration and public stockings of non-native trout species into N.C. streams. After my volunteer experience, I pursued my education at Haywood Community College and Western Carolina University and received a degree in Wildlife Management and Forestry.
I then went to work for the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission – fisheries division. After that, I worked for the U.S. Forest service on many projects throughout the United States. I gained valuable training and experience in forest inventory and analysis, as well as fire fighting, migratory neo-tropical songbird inventory, and soil and insect studies.
In 1996, I was asked to help a friend run a full service nightclub / live music venue. I learned every aspect of the business from security, production, procuring entertainment, payroll, and many other management duties. Although it’s a different field of employment, I believe that I learned many skills that can be applied to an array of different work-related situations.
