BUSINESS: Freelance: July 2006 to present, overseeing events and fundraisers for various
non profit and educational organizations.

BUSINESS: Managing Director: Trinity Irish Dance, August 2002 to July 2006, one of the largest, most recognized dance schools. 1500+ dancers and over 10 locations in IL and WI.

Primary Challenges: Create environment that was enthusiastic, collaborative and professional, uniting the profit and nonprofit entities of the organization. Design procedures that clearly and effectively outlined overall organization’s high degree of professionalism. Create more focused, meaningful events and fundraisers. Enhance motivation and consequently participation, all adding to increase bottom line profitability.

Leadership Actions: Building a positive image and infrastructure for the profit and nonprofit organizations while evaluating job descriptions and introducing effective financial controls. With an ability to influence and motivate others, developed and launched new concepts to increase revenue and build loyalty.
• Analyzed effectiveness and profitability of all events. Researched and implement new event/fundraising opportunities to raise revenue and increase awareness. Managed all aspects of annual events and fundraisers which, at times, began with conception, budgeting, marketing collateral and event activity to, when necessary, day of event management. Venues ranged from small theaters, to ballrooms, to outdoor amphitheaters. When applicable, solicited donations, pursued sponsorships, etc.
• Updated and oversaw an effective volunteer program which included: recruitment, coordination and assignment of the volunteers for various events/projects. Consulted with staff/volunteers to reinforce the positives and improve upon the weaknesses.
• Developed and launched strong marketing tactics to increase revenue. This ranged from redesign of the overall curriculum, to identifying public performances, television appearances and educational outreach programs, to approval on all collateral before it was sent to prospective customers.
• Developed all internal and external communication including: broadcast emails, website design, manuals, brochures, weekly newsletters, flyers, press kits, etc.
• Continually defined strategy and creatively brought solutions while marketing objective was maintained and targeted revenue goals achieved.
• Identified, cultivated and solicited sponsorships from individual donors, businesses and corporations. Able to effectively negotiate the most delicate matters with sponsors and vendors.
• Accountable for the financial stability of the organization: Developed annual operating budget, managed all revenues and expenditures including outside agencies and vendors, analyzed and developed operational systems. Result: 20% reduction in budgetary expenses each year.


BUSINESS: School Board and Community Leader: Chicago, March 1999 to August 2002,
for a private elementary school.

Primary Challenges: Shortage of funds left the school with a less that adequate kitchen for school lunches and an empty back courtyard for young students to enjoy their recess breaks.

Leadership Actions: As a volunteer and board member, chaired this private elementary school’s largest fundraiser for two consecutive years. Increased net income by 50% and kitchen was renovated. Additionally, negotiated with local financial institution to obtain sponsorship funds to purchase playground equipment.

BUSINESS: Advertising/Promotions Director: Margie Korshak Inc., Chicago, Oct. 1989 to March 1999,
a highly recognized and respected Chicago public relations/advertising agency. Clients: consumer products, food/restaurants, hotels, nonprofit, retail, real estate and entertainment.

Primary Challenges: Public relations and advertising departments often worked independently because of the fast paced, constantly changing demands. Constant billing discrepancies were prevalent between advertising expenditures and account invoicing. Advertising expenditures were not always negotiated to their greatest potential and promotional sponsorships not always pursued.

Leadership Actions: Reported directly to president/owner, Margie Korshak. Majority of agency’s accounts included theatrical productions (Ex. Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Aida, Show Boat, Forever Plaid, etc). Often worked directly with celebrities and promoters from these productions to develop and execute advertising plans, sponsorships and promotional tie-ins.
• Managed three departments: Advertising/Promotion, Creative, and Shipping. Developed procedures to insure that all departments, especially accounting, worked in tandem with the advertising/promotions department.
• Managed client marketing plans. Developed strategies supported the public relations in order to maximize advertising and promotional exposure.
• Analyzed client demographics and their correlation with market research to determine key audience segments. Developed media plans and negotiated radio, television, print and out-of-home advertising. When applicable, conducted grassroots marketing and advertising. Oversaw all development/execution of newspaper, radio and television creative including brochures, flyers, etc.
• Identified and executed promotional tie-ins and sponsorships with clients/media. Media partners included: Chicago Tribune/Sun-Times and community print publications, in addition to various radio and television stations.
