ACCURIDE CORPORATION, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 2004 – 2007
Project Engineer Designed and Qualified aluminum wheels for the heavy truck industry and for the military ground vehicle market. Used available resources to assemble and coordinate team efforts in supplying wheels to market on schedule. Coordinated all cross-functional areas for design, manufacturing, quality and vendors in the supply chain.
*Generated approximately $550K annual savings through the development of an “optimized” wheel to reduce raw material input. *Designed new two piece “bolt together” wheel for military vehicles resulting in the firs contract award for aluminum military wheels. *Decreased scrap rates by 95% by implementing new valve hole drill and drilling/coining operation that was producing wheels out of specification. *Reduced inflation valve installation time by approximately 365%, from 4 minutes to 1 minute, by designing new tools and switching to an alternate inflation valve retention nut.

*Reduced potential for company liability for aircraft damage by designing a new retaining system that eliminated brake return mechanisms from departing the brake assembly in service due to normal operational vibration. *Lowered costly axle replacement frequency by reducing grease wash-out for nose wheels with the design of a new grease seal. *Re-designed carbon brake discs to eliminate field failures for US Navy aircraft. *Extended brake life by approximately 33% with the design and qualification of a brake disc re-use program for Air Force aircraft. *Developed both a re-conditioning and maintenance program for customer to avoid pre-mature wheel retirement due to poor maintenance practices.
Test Engineer 1985 – 1994
Responsible for qualification of commercial and military aircraft wheels, brakes and brake control systems, and providing test reports to appropriate government agencies and customers. Duties included Interpreting and understanding government and customer specifications. Generated specifications for test equipment required to conduct tests. Developed hydro-mechanical systems for automated brake control system used for all laboratory test stops. Designed and developed test fixtures when required. Group Leader, Design/Drafting 1983 – 1985 Supervised up to eight designers with responsibility for scheduling work and mentoring when required.
