Skills: MY SKILLS
On daily basis, monitored, translated, and provided content analysis of commercially available local print media (newspapers, magazines, newsletters, news agencies, specialized publications etc…) television and radio programs, press agency dispatches, Internet websites, blogs, discussion forums, for current events and breaking news in 20 African countries. Covered the following pre-defined collection criteria: political, economic, terrorism [serving as a first line of defense] military, crime, human rights, health, narcotics, proliferation, environment, migration, energy, telecom, technology, environment, media, and gray literature collection. Edited on daily basis large volume of news items processed from French, English, Spanish, and dozens of African languages by local contractors, without losing idiom and nuance in translation. Mentored 12 in-house junior open source information officers in sharpening their expertise in open source collection, timely and accurate processing, and appropriate dissemination to U.S. Government analysts and policymakers. Developed, trained, and managed a reliable cadre of 32 open source information contractors scattered in west and central Africa, including in risk areas. Provided real-time information support to analytical efforts on regional and transnational topics of interest to U.S. Government analysts and researchers. Created and e-mailed audio and video actualities of breaking news stories to the British Government’s BBC Monitoring [http://www.monitor.bbc.co.uk] Crafted several open source Value Added Products for high-profile U.S. Government intelligence consumers, to support decision making, planning, and operations. Some of these VAP’s included the ‘Friday Sermons Highlights’ -- a compilation of sermon topics discussed at various local mosques across west and central Africa -- Country Profiles; and Election Guides. Planned and implemented source signals cruising projects in coverage area. Planned and carried out on regular basis media surveys in countries in coverage area. Contributed multimedia/enriched content to the daily updating of the Africa Page of the OSC website. Maintained situational awareness of west and central African events at all times.
