8/13/96 - 6/8/04 Electronics Engineering Technician Overhoff Technology, Inc.: Milford, OH
This is a small company that makes custom designed radiation detection equipment. Duties are primarily to modify and test the electronics of the equipment. I would take the schematic and component layout for a basic instrument and modify them to reflect the changes needed (open tracks, added jumpers and/or components, etc.). In most cases new circuits had to be designed and added. The board assemblers would then assemble the boards and would then test and fine-tune them, making changes as needed. The CAD operator would make the mechanical drawings for the machinist and cabinet assembler. Then all subassemblies would be put together and I would do a final test and calibration of the equipment. Besides these duties we regularly designed new and unique equipment. Each of us has our own strengths but we all did every job, from CAD to prototyping, when called upon. Drew all schematics and PCB drawings for the latest SMD units. Also assisted in making Technical manuals and User Guides for equipment and equipment software use.

This company hired eight others and myself to form a Test Engineering Department to modernize the plant for sale in about five (5) years. The plant had 353 employees making two models of radar detectors at a rate of 300 per day and home arrest systems at a rate of about 20 per week. When sold it had 357 employees making; six models of radar detectors at a rate of 1500 per day for Cobra, Radio Shack, and Escort (Own Brand); 3 models of 900MHZ cordless phones at a rate of 650 per day for Cobra, Southwestern Bell, Southern Bell, AT&T, and Escort; and CDPD Modem Packets for various cell phone companies and cell phone users at a rate of 100 per day.
Built complete test systems. ---- Designed and built fixtures for electronic p.c. board testing to be mounted to mobile racks or automatic conveyor systems. Mounted instruments into cabinets or mobile racks and wired them into the fixtures and p.c. cards. Set up p.c. programs to operate fixtures and instruments to test p.c. boards to product specs. and pass data to the operator and a database on the network. This required some C++ program knowledge, p.c. hardware/software knowledge (Network use, data acquisition cards, etc.), some machine shop skills (Bridgeport Mill, band saw, grinder, etc.), detail work with hand tools, CAD design work, and electronic circuit design and testing. Worked with GPIB controlled instruments such as scopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, power supplies, meters, etc.
