Job Description:
The Graduate School of the University of Maryland University College, through a special grant from the Department of Education Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE), is looking to hire both a course developer and an assessment designer for a new, online graduate course. The 12-week course, Graduate Writing Basics, will be developmental in nature and cover topics such as: the writing process, constructing clear and grammatically correct sentences and paragraphs, word choice, punctuation, and grammar basics.

Duties: The course developer will be expected to design online lectures, activities, and assignments to achieve pre-established course objectives. The assessment designer will be responsible for developing multiple-choice and open-ended questions for an online English and writing test that students will take prior to and after completion of the course.

Compensation: Both positions are contractual and pay approximately $3,500. The time frame for completion of the course development and assessment design will be approximately 4 weeks, beginning and ending in January 2010.

Qualifications: Both positions require at least a master’s degree in English, rhetoric, or a related field. At least two years experience teaching, tutoring or coaching adult learners in English or writing is preferred.
