Job Description: Organizational Vision and Mission Statements MISSION: Engage and collaborate with schools and community partners using culturally competent strategies to support child, youth and family success. Purpose Statement The Associate Director oversees finance, fund development and communications for the organization. The Associate Director is responsible for the financial and development efforts including fundraising activities such as the annual fundraising event, donor gifts campaigns, securing grants and corporate donations and sponsorships, along with the development of earned income strategies. The Associate Director coordinates major communications efforts and cultivates press opportunities for Community Schools Collaboration. The Associate Director is second in command and works proactively with the Executive Director and Board Fund Development Committee to provide leadership, strategic direction, oversight and management of the fundraising activities.
Job Requirements: Responsibilities
Finance • Oversee the smooth functioning of the finance department income and expense functions. • Oversee the monthly dissemination of budget-to-actual reporting. • Oversee financial reporting for the CSC Board. • Oversee the payroll processing functions. • Supervise the finance and operations staff
Fund Development Individual Gifts • Strategize and coordinate cultivation activities needed to accomplish the annual fundraising objectives, emphasizing new and existing individual donors, managing all aspects of bi-yearly solicitations and donor acknowledgments. • Develop and implement strategies and programs to engage donors and increase both the number of individual donors and average giving levels. • Oversee management of donor database for timely recording of donations, updating records, tracking and generating pledge and matching gift reminders. • Work with the Board to identify, cultivate and secure major donor relationships with individuals. Special Events • Create and manage an event strategy associated with existing donor cultivation and fundraising appeals to include donor breakfasts and luncheons, education events and workshops and other special events. • Coordinate event committee and table captains for CSC’s annual fundraiser. • Plan and coordinate and/or manage other donor solicitation/cultivation, donor stewardship and fundraising events throughout the year. Corporate Giving and Foundation Grants • Strategize and implement a comprehensive annual fund and major donor campaign including stewardship and maintenance of existing contributor relationships, research and cultivation of prospective corporate, foundation and government donors. • Work closely with Executive Director and Program to develop grant outcomes to fund new and existing programs • Develop and manage grants application calendar, prepare grant requests and ensure the quality and timely submission of all grants and follow-up reports. • Identify and cultivate sources of foundation and government grants and ensure compliance with all requirements for received grants. • Coordinate grant writing contractual work. Board relations • Engage Board in solicitation of potential donors. • Support Fund Development and Fundraising Event Committee; attend all committee meetings. • Support Executive Director and Board members in board activities, as it pertains to fundraising. Other • Develop and implement development strategies and mechanisms including Major Gifts, Planned Giving and Endowment programs. • Generate fund development reports as requested. • Create annual development plan. • Work with the executive director to develop a business plan for earned income strategies each year. • Coordinate and monitor all earned income strategies. • Supervise the Program Assistant • Supervise the Volunteer Coordinator Communications • Develop and draft (in conjunction with Executive Director and with input from the program staff) all written materials related to the above responsibilities, e.g., solicitation and acknowledgment materials, proposals and applications, sponsorship packages, development reports and analyses, Board materials, etc. • Participate and advise the development of marketing and fundraising materials (i.e. newsletters, appeal letters, reports, press releases and event announcements), branding and information dissemination.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
SKILLS: Excellent proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Power Point, Excel, Word, etc.); web development skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; skills in organizational marketing and branding
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of business strategies and non-profit governance; knowledge of fundraising strategies; knowledge of for profit and earned income strategies that work with nonprofit organizations; knowledge of local corporate, individual and foundation funders
ABILITY: Ability to schedule and facilitate numerous activities, meetings and/or events; gather, collate and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances. Ability to problem-solve day-to-day program issues: communicate with diverse groups; maintain confidentiality; deal with changing priorities; work under frequent interruptions; and work as part of a team.
RESPONSIBILITY: Ability to work under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods and operate with a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job functions. There is a continual opportunity to have significant impact on the organization’s services.
• Experience Job related experience is required. At least five years experience raising funds in the not for profit sector, preferably within the Puget Sound region Experience working with people of diverse ethnic, cultural, racial and socio-economic backgrounds Proven ability to attract, develop and sustain strong relationships with major financial supporters from the philanthropic and corporate communities Excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrated interest in children’s and education issues or community development
• Education A master’s degree in business, economics, marketing or other related field is preferred; Bachelor’s degree and seven years of experience may substitute
• Other information Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance is required Knowledge of the local funding and corporate giving community required Reports to the Executive Director
