Job Description: Purpose: The Assistant Controller manages the day-to day flow of general ledger data and reviews all data entering the general ledger for accuracy and for compliance with sound internal controls, GAAP and IRS regulations for organizational structure.
Continuing Responsibilities: „X Reviews general ledger entry for receivables, payables, cash, payroll and all other journal entry activity „X Works with accounting and development team on quarterly processing of donor statements, including review of transactional activity and allocation of investment activity; „X Assists with cash management „X Assists with the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements and related variance analysis for department managers and board committees; „X Assists in the preparation of schedules for the annual audit and schedules reconciling the audit to the 990s. „X Coordinates monthly close schedules to ensure timely reporting. „X Reviews bank and investment account reconciliations. „X Assists in the preparation of annual operating budget „X Assists with grant reporting „X Reviews policies and procedures annually with Controller „X Other projects as requested, including research related to donor funds.
Job Requirements: Competencies and Experience: „X Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles related to not for profit organizations including FAS 116, 117. Knowledge of 117-1, 136 and 157 preferred. „X Knowledge of fund (inter-fund) accounting preferred. „X CPA or equivalent. „X Five years experience in a senior accounting position. „X Ability to manage accounting staff. „X Strong Microsoft Office skills and literacy with accounting software; Experience with FIMS highly desirable. „X Strong financial and analytical skills „X Advanced Excel skills. „X Ability to manage time, set priorities, and meet deadlines, while working independently and collaboratively; „X Strong communication skills. „X Demonstrated supervisory experience. „X Foundation, particularly community foundation, experience highly desirable.
