Job Description:
The Cytogenetic Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operation of the cytogenetic laboratory, monitoring work in progress, determining priorities and coordinating tasks that contribute to workflow efficiency. S/he is also responsible for assisting with preparation, analysis and interpretation, and case report data entry.

Essential Core Functions:

Ų Responsible for working with the Director to establish the cytogenetics laboratory

Ų Direct day-to-day technical operations of cytogenetics lab staff

Ų Validate procedures and fulfill licensing requirements

Ų Train and supervise all cytogenetics technologists and lab assistants

Ų Assist the laboratory cytogenetic technologists in the review of quality control procedures and ensure all labs are meeting requirements for standardization of reagents and protocols.

Ų Perform personnel training, performance reviews and coaching

Ų Follows established company and department policies

Ų Responsible for turn around time reporting

Ų Responsible for overall laboratory safety and participating in QI/QA/QC/Safety programs

Ų Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure adequate inventories are maintained

Ų Maintain established performance and production standards

Ų Practice a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality

Qualifications:

Job Specifications:

1. Education, Certification/Licensure, and/or Experience

a. B.S. or B.A. degree in Medical Cytogenetics Technology or an appropriately related scientific discipline.

b. At least 5 years of clinical cytogenetics experience

c. Current NCA certification as a clinical laboratory specialist in cytogenetics [CLSP(CG)] preferred.

2. Knowledge, technical skills, and abilities required

a. Ability to perform all skill sets required for laboratory technologist positions.

a. Knowledge of advanced training in all areas of routine and specialized FISH techniques.

b. Excellent communication skills

c. Ability to be motivational and persuasive
