Job Description: Account Specialist (Telecommuting Position)
The Account Specialist is an important member of the revenue operations team supporting the Account Manager in working closely with clients and their staff, providers and patients. The Account Specialist will maintain one client account and will work in data capture, virtual registration, real time eligibility and benefits, electronic and paper claims submission, payment posting, claims follow-up.
Responsibilities: • Maintain registration or confirmation of registration information on patients into the practice management system • Verify insurance eligibility • Select or request creation of correct insurance code and related information based on our policy guidelines • Prepare requests for information as well as utilize various systems for entering or updating patient demographics and insurance information • Data entry and/or verification of ICD9, CPT, Provider, Referring Provider and HCPS codes • Ensure Census data matches incoming data and ability to create reports and communicate with various entities for obtaining missing information • Prepare charge and payment reconciliation reports • Transmit electronic claims as needed • Review Clearing House(s) claims transmission reports to ensure successful transmission • Correct, resubmit and process rejected and appeal claims • Process primary paper claims with supporting documentation (i.e. workers’ compensation) • Prepare electronic version of “Insurance Follow-up Report” for claims older than 45 days and obtain claim status • Document claim status findings
Job Requirements: Qualifications: • High School diploma or equivalent • Solid understanding of the insurance industry and products to include FFS, HMO, PPO, POS and the changes in managed care organizational structures impacting patient care • Solid understanding of third party reimbursement and familiarity with insurance contracts • 2+ years healthcare experience in a capacity involving registration and billing • Computer proficiency including Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, practice management software along with proficiency in navigating various server files and internet portals • Knowledge of ICD9, CPT and HCPCS codes • Familiarity with laws that govern healthcare practices i.e., HIPPA, anti-trust and practice management • Self motivated and able to handle large volumes of work • High Speed internet required for telecommuting
