Department Manager - Paper Treating, Hard Surfaces - Plant LP - 1st Shift (12776 Job

Plant LP is seeking a highly motivated Department Manager to manage a 3 shift paper treating operation.  The Department Manager will be responsible for leading improvement efforts related to safety, quality, productivity, and profitability through innovation and implementation of process improvement tools and systems.  The Department Manager will lead and develop a salary group of 3 Supervisors as well as ensure the development of all employees in the Paper Treating Department. 

• Manage, train, develop, and assess performance to ensure plant objectives are met


• Ensure cross-training to maintain adequate succession candidate pool for operator positions


• Lead problem solving and continuous improvement efforts and resolve operational challenges to prevent delays, eliminate bottlenecks and ensure minimum costs


• Implement/Enforce company, plant, and departmental policies and procedures


• Maintain effective communication within production department as well as between other departments

• Strong Leadership Skills – ability to lead, coach, train, and develop personnel


• 5 years progressive leadership experience in a continuous improvement manufacturing environment


• Good problem solving and decision-making skills


• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)


• Strong organizational skills with ability to plan and meet deadlines


• Excellent computer skills (word, excel, graphics, database)


• Strong knowledge of safety procedures and regulatory matters:  OSHA, EPA

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Operations Management, Engineering or related field


• First Aid / CPR


• SAFE, SMS, Plant Specific Training


• Shop Floor Control System, Production Scheduling, Paper Treating manufacturing process, Hard Surfaces mainframe screens


• Six Sigma Greenbelt
