Position Overview:
Are you a Culinary professional looking for a whole new way of working? Join Whole Foods Market as a Prepared Foods Department Manager (Team Leader). Teamwork is at the heart of Whole Foods Market, and you will lead a team with your creativity, passion for the product, and quality driven leadership style. The Prepared Foods Team Leader reports to the Store Manager (Store Team Leader) and is guided by the Regional Prepared Foods Program Coordinator. In conjunction with the Store Leadership you will be responsible for Team Member hiring, development, terminations and generally holding your team accountable for their work. The Prepared Foods Team Leader is responsible for profitability, expense control (packaging and labor), inventory control, buying and merchandising, regulatory compliance, recipe development and special projects as assigned. Complete accountability for all aspects of team operations and perform all duties and responsibilities of team positions. We are looking for individuals who lead, not manage, work teams. You will be encouraged to run the Prepared Foods Department as if it was your own business (within certain guidelines of course). This is a position that will prepare you for Store or Regional Leadership within Whole Foods Market.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Interview, select, train, evaluate, counsel and terminate Team Members.
2. Follow through on all customer questions and requests.
3. Create a labor schedule to leverage productivity within the needs of the department.
4. Ensure department orders for equipment, supplies and products are timely and accurate.
5. Keep all cases and shelves clean, well-stocked and properly rotated.
6. Follow established food safety, cleaning and maintenance procedures.
7. Maintain accurate retail pricing and signage.
8. Oversee sampling of department products to the customers.
9. Supervise and maintain special order system.
10. Be aware of new products and their placement.
11. Ensure that product is cross-merchandised with other departments.
12. Maintain backstock areas and coolers.
13. Analyze and control product transfers, waste and spoilage.
14. Know and practice proper lifting techniques and safe use of all tools and equipment.
15. Practice proper care and maintenance of all equipment.
16. Report safety violations and hazards immediately; maintain department security.
17. Communicate with Team Members regarding all department operations.
18. Conduct scheduled inventories and submit reports.
19. Maintain a contribution margin equal to or exceeding regional averages.
20. Communicate company goals and information to Team Members.
21. Know product availability, preparation, storage and nutritional aspects.
22. Oversee adjustment of displays according to movement, promotions and profitability.
23. Keep Store Leadership informed of all events that affect the department.
24. Ensure that product mix meets varied customer dietary needs and requests.
25. Participate in regional and national sales promotions.
26. Have a firm understanding of department financials and labor budgets.
27. Accept and process product from Receiver.
28. Schedule and lead department team meetings; attend store and regional meetings.
29. Visit the competition on a regular basis and react to current industry trends.
30. Perform Team Member duties as required to run the department.
31. Coordinate/supervise Salad Bar, Hot and Cold Case, and Jamba Juice (where applicable) products and personnel.
32. Regular attendance is essential.
33. Perform other duties as assigned by Store Leadership/Coordinator.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Must be self-motivated and solution-oriented.
2. Excellent merchandising skills and eye for detail.
3. Must have a current Serv-Safe certificate.
4. Ability to maintain good relationships with vendors and the community.
5. Good communicator and motivator; able to work well with others and convey enthusiasm.
6. Can train and inspire Team Members to excellence in all aspects of the department.
7. Love and knowledge of natural foods.
8. Is available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department.
9. Knowledge of basic computer skills.
