Job Description:
Produce risk and position (and some ad-hoc) reports for submission to traders and provide guidance to junior staff with these functions. Assist with the development of new reporting systems and tools.

Check change in risk reports (Delta, Vega, Resets, etc.) from previous day and confirm move (including new business added).

Confirm closing positions (from traders file vs. source system) from previous day (bonds, futures, etc.).

Reconcile actual daily profit and loss (P&L) theoretical expectations (using risks given to traders the previous day).

Correspond with the accounting group to reconcile the monthly P&L to the general ledger for all desks within the group including resolution of reporting differences i.e. independent revaluation entries, reserves, etc.

Liaise with other areas of the bank (finance, Chief accountant’s division, Audit, etc.) answering fairly detailed questions regarding risk/positions, changes in risk/positions, trend flow analysis and field questions regarding regulatory reporting requirements.

Suggest/create new processes for the purpose of more efficient or accurate data extraction or manipulation.

Test upgrades to existing technology, which may reside in a test environment or database.

Resolve differences with traders’ closing levels to market at month-end (independent mark to market check) including dialogue with trading group and finance management (liaise with accounting control as required).

Produce ad-hoc files as needed, which may include non-routine data or connection to sources not currently set up. This may include designing new spreadsheets or modifying existing ones.

Project work as directed by a manager/supervisor. Nature of work could be outside parameters of daily skill set and include the acquisition of new skills


Job Requirements:
Good understanding of all the major departments in the bank and the flow of information.

Advanced understanding of the calculations used to derive all theoretical figures in the daily P&L.

Excellent reconciliation skills (and conceptual thinking) sufficient to track differences in daily P&L and coach intermediate analysts and/or trade control staff.

Ability to respond to queries regarding reporting differences, movement, position breaks and trends.

Excellent communication skills required conveying interpretational data, which may be very technical in nature at times.

Advanced working knowledge of major systems used to capture trades (i.e. Optex, Murex, Liftoff, or any other similar and relevant system) and able to apply that knowledge to assist junior staff or other areas of the bank

Advanced understanding of spreadsheets (Excel level III or equivalent) and formulas commonly used in the financial field.

Ability to use initiative and achieve results.

Effective interpersonal relations, including excellent teamwork/partnerships and relationship building.

Confident and thorough, using good judgment, good decision making and high attention to detail.


Perform all daily tasks and most semi-routine tasks independently
without any supervision.

Interpret relevant information on an ad-hoc basis including queries
regarding past reporting or differences in a relatively short period of
time.

Excellent organizational skills, must be able to meet strict
deadlines.

Avoid discrepancies to implement tasks as per time-table.

Attention span must be very high, as some projects require a
considerable investment of time.

Held accountable for inaccuracies in work.

Perform non-routine, but fairly comprehensive changes to daily
processes and direct junior staff on the implementation of new processes.

Ability to interact with traders ranging from director to managing
director with a fairly high level of professionalism.
