Job Description:
ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Developing outstanding and innovative solutions for systems monitoring and management.
• Investigating new technologies and standards, making recommendations to the Team Leader, documenting best practices and tutoring other members of the team.
• Ensuring that software produced by the Engineering Development team is bug free and fully functional by peer review.
• Producing a sufficient level of documentation and training for the deployment and support of all new tools that are developed.
• Assisting in the development of junior team members acting as a mentor where required.
• Assisting the Engineering Development Team Leader and the wider Operations Team with the definition of business processes for automation.
• Producing test and repair tools required to support the production network.
• Automating defined business processes which are used by the Operations department.
• Ensuring continuous adherence to all processes and procedures relating to Engineering Development and suggest improvements to these where appropriate.
• Ensuring that tools are developed within an acceptable timeframe and an exceptional level of communication is upheld with the stakeholders on each project.
• Participating in the evaluation of third party tools or applications introduced into the production environment.
Job Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential
• Enthusiastic and able to work with minimal supervision in an environment with tight deadlines.
• Experience in working on large computer systems (1000+ machines).
• Minimum of 3 years experience in a technical role.
• At least 2 years Perl, JavaScript, XSLT, Transact-SQL and C# coding experience, including a thorough understanding object orientation
• Working experience of coding web services with XML technologies.
• Good working technical knowledge of web, mail and database servers, firewalls, routers and load balancers.
• In depth knowledge of databases (MySQL / MSSQL).
• Working knowledge of common computer networking / Internet protocols and technologies (e.g. Ethernet, TCP/IP, SMTP, SNMP, HTTP, LDAP, BGP, OSPF, MQ, Telnet, Active Directory, Kerberos).
• Experience with many operating systems (Windows, Linux, Solaris, Cisco IOS, Data OnTap).
• Excellent knowledge of computer hardware architecture (x86, x86_64, SCSI, RAID, Cisco hardware, Network Appliance).
• Experience of managing substantial change.
• Proven ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Capability to see the wider implications of operational decisions.
• Proactive approach to improving services.
Desirable
• Full driving licence.
• Educated to degree level in an IT related subject.
• ITIL v2 or v3 Foundation or Practitioner certification.
