Job Description:
1. Evaluate renewal actions for competitiveness and adequacy through the use of various rating techniques (ACR fully-insured and self-insured). Prepare exhibits and reports for renewal presentations.
2. Generate new business quotes on a timely basis for all products (HMO, PPO, POS and Dual Option) and financial arrangements (fully insured and self-insured) by analyzing data provided by other insurance carriers..
3. Analyze develop and complete corporate and department projects on a timely basis.
4. Negotiate premium rates and aggregate claim factors with reinsurers; review reinsurance contracts and monitor self-funded group specifics and aggregate reinsurance. Coordinate submission of aggregate claims, if any, to reinsurers.
5. Assist Marketing in the delivery of proposals and renewals via presentations to prospects, clients and broker/consultants.
6. Provide answers to questions included in Request for Proposals (RFP's) and complete financial and underwriting exhibits on large prospect accounts.
7. Work with Manager of Underwriting to investigate special case situations with potentially adverse experience and propose options to limit the company's' financial exposure.
8. Complete Ad Hoc requests from Marketing and Underwriting management on a timely basis.
9. Seek to constantly improve the efficiency of the Underwriting department by Underwriting and communicating suggestions for improvements.
10. Provide training to both the Underwriting and marketing departments on various underwriting guidelines, rating techniques and reinsurance polices through training workshops and/or on an individual basis.
Job Requirements:
1. BS or BA in business or a related field (Economics, Finance or Health Management).
2. Five to seven years of experience underwriting HMO or group health insurance. Also, the candidate must demonstrate a competent level of expertise with the Microsoft software products: Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
3. Ability to analyze complex medical experience information and exercise sound judgment in setting premium rates.
4. Skilled at working well with varied levels of staff including Marketing, MIS and occasionally brokers, consultants and clients. (Must be able to work cooperatively as a team member.)
