Director, Infrastructure and Operations

FT position, Brisbane, CA, $160K or more D.O.E.

As the Director, Infrastructure and Operations, reporting to the Director of Technology, for a Global eCommerce company you will have the opportunity to help build and support the infrastructure for a multi-tenant eCommerce platform. The Director will have accountability for ensuring a highly available, high performance and scalable eCommerce infrastructure. A wide degree of creativity and efficiency is expected. The ideal candidate will have leadership/management experience but still be very hands-on.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Lead the efforts for the design, implementation, maintenance and support of the systems architecture for the eCommerce platform
· Ensuring a optimal cost, highly available, high performance and scalable eCommerce infrastructure
· Select and manage technology partners who will be designing and supporting the eCommerce platform
· Develop methodologies to manage systems performance and capacity for growth
· Partner with the chief architect to develop the Infrastructural components of the strategic technology roadmap
· Through the technology partners, draft technical requirements and designs; develop test and implementation plans; manage issues pertaining to schedule, resources and risk
· Participate in the selection and timing of project or program investments based on the organization's strategic plan and available resources
· Present proposed technical solutions and other materials to various teams within the organization
· Communicate and collaborate effectively with peers, management, vendors, and interested parties to meet goals
· Draft and implement critical processes and procedures based on industry best practices
· Implement systems and procedures to measure the Infrastructure usage for each tenant
· Manage the operations team 24/7 based and provide escalated support, as required
· Support the IT needs of the main office

Strong working knowledge and experience with several of these:
· Managing a large, high performance, highly scalable web platform preferably in retail eCommerce
· Solaris (or equivalent Unix) systems
· Oracle database servers in a distributed, replicated environment
· Network and Security infrastructure
· Virtualization technology
· Experience with storage technologies (EMC or like); NAS and SAN required.
· Load balancing software
· Working knowledge and experience in installing and configuring server side environments such as Perl, PHP, Python, Apache, and Shell scripts
· Passion for delivering 24/7 service availability
· Track record of managing, motivating and directing technology partners
· Demonstrated experience managing data centers for a SaaS/ASP is strongly preferred.
· Exceptional communication and negotiation skills with internal staff and IT vendors
· Solid knowledge of and expertise in risk management, configuration management, and disaster recovery
· Basic knowledge and expertise of quality engineering and metrics engineering
· Basic knowledge of data center ROI and budgeting
· Must have experience managing staff in multiple locations is required.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work effectively in a high pressure environment as well be able to prioritize activities so that all deadlines are met. An individual who is detail oriented, proactive and has excellent organization skills with the ability to mult-task is key.

Job Requirements:
Required Experience:
· 12+ years of systems engineering and network operations experience required.
· At lease 7+ years experience managing systems administrators, network engineers, database administrators and security personnel
· Must have managed network operations/IT including Development and Production Servers
· B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent is required
