Work includes, but is not limited to analysis, preparation, and implementation of geotechnical design of soil and rock foundations of large, complex, and important military facilities; environmental investigation and evaluation for hazardous and toxic wastes at current and former military installations; geophysical investigation supporting hazardous waste studies; detection and recovery of buried military munitions; and water supply/groundwater availability studies. The Branch works closely with research and development organizations to improve shallow geophysical investigation technology. The Branch establishes field and laboratory test criteria and procedures; establishes geotechnical requirements; analyzes and evaluates reports and designs; assures compliance with established policy, technical requirements and regulatory criteria; and prepares supporting documentation.
