Job Description:

In support of this mission, your duties will be: Provides solutions through the process of planning, design and construction to address resource concerns. Recommends, through the State Conservation Engineer, research needed to improve engineering practices and/or resolve special engineering problems in soil erosion control, irrigation or drainage. Maintains currency on new techniques and pertinent research findings by reviewing current literature, research reports, and abstracting pertinent data for transmittal to field offices through policy updates on soil and water conservation issues. Coordinates the collection of data for analyzing, evaluating, and implementing proposed engineering treatments and to address resource concerns. Assists and advises the State Conservation Engineer in coordinating and managing the state engineering program through the formulation and recommendation of policies, standards and procedures. Initiates, develops, and maintains cooperative working relations with members of Federal and Tribal agencies, the general public and other groups for the purpose of obtaining maintaining adequate public participation in the water resources program. Manages engineering tasks and projects by taking a proactive approach for coordination and completion of the work. Supervises lower grade engineers and/or technicians as assigned. Assists Area and Field Office staff and engineers in implementing irrigation and conservation practices. Provides technical assistance and guidance to field engineers on the more complex engineering problems and insures that structures conform to NRCS, Federal, Tribal, and state laws and regulations. Assists in training engineers and technicians in engineering theory and application to engineering problems. Participates in Quality Assurance Reviews at the Area and Field Office level as assigned. Serves as Contracting Officers Technical Representative (COTR) on assigned projects. You may be required to travel approximately 1 - 5 nights per month. Qualifications: QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: To be basically qualified for this job, you must have: Degree: professional engineering.
