This position assigns, supervises, and coordinates the work of a group of inmates in the processing of furniture products from raw materials. Also coordinates the flow of necessary raw materials and supplies needed for mill production; maintains order and supervises the conduct of inmate work crews; maintains security within the work area, conducts regular safety meetings while enforcing safety rules in the operation of the industrial equipment. The supervisor keeps time cards, assists in custodial searches, shakedowns, inmate counts and all other duties assigned; performs periodic quality control inspections on raw materials, components in production and finished products. The supervisor establishes production standards and the production sequence. REQUISITE SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Coordinates the flow of necessary raw materials and supplies needed for mill production; selects, trains, counsels, and supervises staff in production work; directs inmates to maintain control of quality, production, inventory and safety requirements; instructs inmate workers in the use and safe operation of various types of furniture/upholstery equipment and schedules labor, materials and production; evaluates inmate work performance and takes appropriate action; supervises and maintains records and reports on production processing and inventories.
