POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Counseling provides a full range of counseling activities that support students in their personal and educational growth while in college. The Assistant Director provides outreach programs and training for students and student peer helpers on a variety of personal growth issues. The Assistant Director provides crisis intervention and consultation, and with the Director of Counseling and other counseling center staff, provides 24 hour on-call emergency coverage while students are in residence. QUALIFICATIONS: A doctorate level degree is preferred and a master's degree in counseling or related field (social work, psychology, etc.) is required. A Pennsylvania license in the individual's professional clinical field is preferred. Previous counseling experience is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide individual counseling services to students on a wide range of personal and academic issues such as personal adjustment, interpersonal relations, couple/family relations, depression, victimization in sexual/physical assault, anxiety, educational goals and social/behavioral adjustment. Provide group counseling services to students. Provide structured or support groups in areas such as eating disorders, substance abuse, etc., as related to student need and interest. Provide crisis intervention counseling and rotate 24 hour on-call responsibility with other counseling center staff. Administer and interpret appropriate psychological testing and assessment techniques to foster self-understanding and decision making.
