Job Description: Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Group Leader is expected to perform each essential duty of this position in a satisfactorily manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.
Education/Experience: Attending college with at least one year of experience with youth-related work or H.S. Diploma with at least two years of experience in community based organization setting. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage participants. Demonstrated knowledge of community service/development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Group Leader is responsible for implementing and monitoring the educational and recreational programs and activities. Areas of responsibility shall include but are not limited to the following: Ensure the safety of all program participants. Cooperation/collaboration with parents, D.O.E. teachers and community entities. Organize and provide support and/or leadership for groups where the primary program emphasis is to encourage learning, make constructive use of leisure time, develop leadership skills, and enhance social development. Timely submission of quality lesson plans that provide participants an opportunity for growth. Engage and assist participants with classroom assignments and projects. Support specialists in the implementation of lesson plans. Perform administrative record keeping, ie; attendance, dismissal sheets, health/emergency records, snack count, and other functions as assigned. Organize and schedule local trips and activities in accordance with the academic curriculum. Recommend, develop, and facilitate activities that provide participants an opportunity for growth. Maintain an awareness of individual needs of participants, consulting with center director, program coordinator, or other designated staff for guidance and/or referral. Other Job Requirements: Must successfully complete staff orientation. Department of Health fingerprinting and clearance. Submission of a tuberculosis test. Must remain in compliance with East Side House rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
Work Schedule: Mondays through Friday, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 pm Be able to maintain a flexible schedule during trips, special events, and activities as required. Period of employment is through September 2008- June 2009, notwithstanding resignation or termination. Staff may reapply for positions each subsequent year.
