The purpose of the class is to supervise Youth Counselors and to work closely with youths at detention center, providing custody, general care and supervision of activities for the detained youths. The class is responsible for the safety and welfare of counselors and detainees. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed, and develops work methods and sequences under general supervision.Supervision: Exercised: Classification typically supervises. Received: Note: Other reporting relationships may apply Example of Duties: Department of Justice Services is seeking a qualified individual with experience to fill the position of Youth Counselor Supervisor I. General Duties: The selected candidate will supervise Youth Counselors and work closely with youth at the Detention Center, providing custody, general care and supervision of activities for the detained youth. The Youth Counselor Supervisor is responsible for the safety and welfare of the counselors and the youth, and ensures that Youth Counselors are fully trained on policies and procedures pertaining to working with youth to ensure safety. Shift work is required. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The successful candidates must possess the ability to establish a positive rapport with Youth Counselors and other staff, and provide appropriate direction and guidance; ability to maintain composure under stressful situations and intervene effectively in a crisis situation; counseling of youth on a regular basis; the ability to work cooperatively in a team environment; and have working knowledge of general office software applications such as Microsoft Office products. Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses: Requires Bachelor's degree or training equivalent to four years of college education in business, liberal arts, or any related field, plus one year of experience.
