Job Description:
The Manager of Pain Management is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) and professional caregiver who serves as a clinical expert and liaison in coordinating pain management, while providing management oversight to the department. The CNS Manager will utilize the nursing process, communication skills, and problem solving techniques to deliver quality care. The Manager will also be responsible for the knowledge and technical skill needed to operate a variety of mechanical devices to accomplish this task. The Pain Management CNS is accountable for the age groups (average age group populations includes pediatrics from age 12 months, adolescents, adults and geriatrics) as defined in the scope of care. Prescribe Category III and above drugs as indicated by state/federal licensing. Implement telephone orders for Category II drugs when a standing order is present. Provide orders under collaboration of physician during assigned “on call” duty. The Manager of Pain Management will also be responsible for the following supervisory functions: Ensuring adequate staffing in the department. Providing Pain and Palliative education to the department quarterly.
