Job Description:
Through focused execution of profitable underwriting of commercial risks in a 7+ million book of business (Combination of New and Renewal Business), this individual will be a solid contributor to the growing success of our Houston, TX Branchoffice. The book of business will be Middle Markets (100k- 1 million in premium)multi line accounts with a heavy emphasis on construction.Ideal candidates will have a strong technical expertise with construction accounts along with ability to produce results in a multi-line environment while adhering to underwriting policies and guidelines, rating manual rules and insurance laws and regulations. In addition, a strong teamwork orientation and ability to cross sell will be highly desired and critical tosuccess.Essential Duties & Responsibilities1. Determines appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.2. Prepares quotes and answers questions from agencies, policyholders or other external contacts and escalates issues to management as necessary. Negotiates with agents to reach positive and profitable outcomes.3. Notifies agencies of adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations.4. Analyzes quality and quantity of risks underwritten and prepares reports for management review.5. May market products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community. Develops and maintains agency and/or broker relationships.6. May provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and to other functional areas.7. Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends.8. Works with more senior underwriters or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.May perform additional duties as assigned. Reporting RelationshipManager or DirectorSkills, Knowledge & Abilities 1. Solid knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.2. Demonstrated technical expertise and product specific knowledge.
