Responsible for a system/work unit with defined responsibilities, tasks, projects, and operations Accomplishes results through lower level subordinates who exercise moderate latitude and independence in their assignment Monitors progress toward unit and departmental goals Monitors external environment in area of technical or professional responsibilitySupervision Receives assignments in the form of objectives with goals and tasks and are sometimes self-initiated Makes day-to-day decisions under minimal supervision Independently determines and develops approach to solutions and corrective actions Actively involved in tasks, projects, schedules, and operational problem solving on a daily basis Provides training, direction and guidance to lower level subordinates according to established policies and management guidance Span of control (direct reports) is usually 3-6 people, not including contractors Evaluates employee performance and has primary responsibility for people/career development planning for subordinates Leadership & Influence Provides leadership to assigned units by communicating and providing guidance toward achieving group objectives and goals Establishes extensive intra-departmental interactions to develop a network of support and influence Resolves conflict within the work unit Facilitates change within work unit Influences people within area and at comparable levels cross-functionally Builds consensus with the work unit Expected to define and implement internal process improvements within the work unit Interacts at various management levels
