Description The mission of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) is to advance and disseminate scientific knowledge to improve human health. The Institute provides objective, timely, authoritative information and advice concerning health and science policy to government, the corporate sector, the professions and the public. The Editorial Projects Manager facilitates coordination meetings. Consults with staff about the progress of reports and other materials. Assists staff in deciding which products and services they need to publish reports or other materials. Participates in staff meetings to discuss and coordinate services with other departments. Marks up manuscripts for composition. Submits cover requests to the graphics department. Hires freelance proofreaders, copy editors, and indexers. Reviews and proofreads indexes, page proofs, and bluelines. Requests, reviews, and submits productions schedules. Reviews and submits cost estimates for service jobs. Assists in the development of publication plans for reports and other materials marketed for focused and/or broad audiences. Monitors the publishing process, including organizing meetings, gathering and analyzing information, and keeping projects on time and within budget. Monitors and tracks the schedule and budgets for projects. Provides advance warning if any deviations are anticipated. Ensures that vendors comply with contract terms and conditions. Expresses effectively and concisely complex technical information in various written forms, including status reports, project summaries, and detailed reports. May assist in related editorial duties or peer review administration, assigning expert referees and obtaining their reviews and editorial decisions.
