Job Description:

Specific responsibilities include: Create and implement a development plan annually to provide financial support for the Center’s mission. Plan and coordinate the work of all staff in regard to fund raising. Identify and research potential individual, foundation, and corporate donors and develop plans for their appropriate cultivation. Develop and implement a plan for major gift development, including a rudimentary planned giving program. Write and prepare approved materials for fund raising and, to some extent, communications purposes. Supervise 1 or 2 development associates. Research and evaluate new developments in fund raising and recommend those that show promise to the Executive Director. Effectively employ the talents and contacts of staff and Board to develop their understanding of fund raising and build the resources of the Indian Law Resource Center. Qualifications The development director will have at least 5 years of demonstrated successful experience in non-profit development; excellent planning, writing, budgeting, editing and oral communication skills; supervisory experience; a collaborative work style that also exhibits initiative; a creative, assertive approach to fund raising; computer and data base literacy; the ability to travel nationally; a minimum of a BA/BS degree; and a general understanding of and commitment to Indian rights. About the Indian Law Resource Center The Indian Law Resource Center is a non-profit law and advocacy organization established and directed by American Indians. We provide legal assistance to Indian and Alaska Native nations who are working to protect their land, resources, human rights, environment and cultural heritage. Our principal goal is the preservation and well-being of Indian and other Native nations and tribes.
