Job Description:
A coordinated approach is required to increase standardization and interoperability across the various labs and to reduce duplication of effort. Responsibilties are outlined as follows: Define the types of data needed to support sample creation, management and analysis, and identify interrelationships across data types; Identify laboratory tasks and practices that can benefit from automated system support and describe the associated workflows to be modeled in a bioinformatics system; Implement and refine the software modeling of such tasks and workflows, coordinate with application developers to implement functionality, and work with a relational database administrator to implement the data model itself; Define and implement project management tools to be included as part of the laboratory information management system; Define functional requirements for project management software applications. Institute working interfaces between laboratory equipment/instrumentation and the information management system. Train lab personnel in the use of any tools developed as part of the information management system as well as writing user documentation for those tools; Perform other, related tasks as necessary. Basic Qualifications : Minimum MS degree in either the biological sciences or information systems required, with at least 5 years of direct experience in a laboratory that creates, manages, tests and/or analyzes biological samples, including involvement in the development and refinement of laboratory practices. Experience with data modeling as well as building and using a relational database and relational database tools is desirable. Experience writing functional specifications for laboratory information management software tools is required.
