ImmigrationWorks is a new national organization building a grassroots constituency in favor of immigration reform - business owners and other voters from across America willing to speak out and demand that it gets done. The organization links some 20 state-based business coalitions: employers and trade associations from Florida to Oregon and from every sector of the economy that relies on immigrant workers. Its goals: to strengthen these groups, expand their number and help them fight local immigration battles even as they build and train for a renewed debate in Congress. ABOUT THE JOB The Communications and Research Director manages IW\'s communications with the media and with its state-based coalitions. Media relations - Draft press releases - Manage press events - Manage the release of IW publications - Cultivate relationships with reporters, bloggers and editorial writers - Develop and implement IW media strategy - including a strategy for new media outreach Policy and research - Track legislation - Draft policy briefs - Draft letters to legislators - Write reports on immigration-related developments in the states and in Washington - Edit commissioned economic and policy studies Network relations - Develop talking points for state-based coalitions - Assist with media training for state-based coalitions - Prepare regular newsletter and other bulletins for state-based coalitions Website - Develop content - Oversee updating - Work with web designer on layout and design ImmigrationWorks is a new and growing organization. The Communications and Research Director, who will report directly to the federation\'s president Tamar Jacoby, will have the opportunity to play a key role in IW\'s development and the national debate on immigration. The Research Director should be an excellent writer with a knowledge of immigration issues and at least five years of professional experience, professional schooling or the equivalent. Ideal candidates would be journalists with strong interest in policy and politics
